Description / Position Overview

Inspector II - Public Works Operations & Maintenance
The City of Colorado Springs is ready to welcome an Inspector II to the Public Works Operations & maintenance Team! As an Inspector II for this team, you will perform technical preliminary, interim, and final construction inspections for assigned engineering projects. These projects include roads, streets, appurtenant structures, catch basins, storm basins, bridges, drainage facilities, buildings, sidewalks, curbs and gutters, cross pans, and squared returns.

This position is subject to budget-required furloughs to be implemented in the 2026 calendar year, and any furloughs subsequently approved.

Monday - Friday; 7:00AM - 3:30PM. Subject to on call/standby and emergency call out
Hiring Salary: $31.11 - $37.35

As an Inspector II for this team, you will:
  • Conduct technical Inspects of construction, replacement, and repair projects in the public right-of-way
  • Respond to all grading complaints and thoroughly investigate to help resolve any conflicts that may arise
  • Ensure all construction activities meet City codes, engineering standards, and local, state, and federal environmental regulations
  • Coordinate with City staff, contractors, developers, and other agencies; provide technical guidance and documentation, including reports and records
  • Understand storm drain operations, capabilities, and limitations of equipment
  • Operate a single/tandem axle dump truck with plow and sander during snow removal operations
  • Perform manual labor such as cleaning culverts, mowing, patching potholes, removing debris, and shoveling asphalt and snow

We are looking for candidates who demonstrate:
Knowledge of:
  • Operations, services, and activities of a comprehensive civil engineering inspection program
  • Basic engineering designs and construction management
  • Methods and techniques of concrete and materials testing and analysis; asphalt overlay, repair, and maintenance; and soil aggregates and associated pavement materials
  • Pertinent federal, state, and local laws, codes, and regulations
  • ADA (Americans with Disabilities Act) regulations and requirements
Ability to:
  • Work independently and as a member of a team
  • Read and interpret blueprints
  • Communicate clearly and concisely, orally and in writing
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships
  • Demonstrate experience with exemplifying leadership, exceptional collaboration, communication, analytical, and interpersonal skills

Minimum Qualifications

  • Equivalent to the completion of the twelfth grade (high school diploma or GED)
  • Three years of full-time, professional experience in a related field
  • Possess, or obtain upon hire, and maintain a valid, non-probationary Colorado driver’s license not subject to restrictions

Preferred Qualifications

  • An associate's degree or higher from an accredited college or university with major coursework in civil engineering technology or a related field
  • Inspection certifications in material testing, especially in asphalt paving, concrete placement, and drainage maintenance
  • Experience with overseeing drainage functions
  • Possess upon hire and ability to maintain a valid non-probationary Colorado Class B CDL not subject to restriction related to alcohol and/or drug violations or pending charges

Physical Demands: This position requires the ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds occasionally and 20 lbs. frequently and sit, stand, and walk for extended periods. The ability to safely operate assigned vehicles is also required.
