Job Summary
We are seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic individual to join our team as an Instructional Assistant in the Library. This position is split between Unionville & Lightfoot Elementary. The ideal candidate will support the library's educational programs and foster a love for reading and learning among students. This full-time position involves collaborating with teachers and librarians to create a nurturing and engaging environment that promotes literacy and academic success.
Responsibilities
- Assist the librarian in the daily operations of the library, including circulation, cataloging, and inventory management.
- Support students in locating and selecting appropriate reading materials, fostering a positive and encouraging atmosphere.
- Help plan and implement library programs, events, and activities that promote literacy and encourage student engagement.
- Provide one-on-one or small group assistance to students in research projects, reading activities, and technology usage.
- Maintain an organized and welcoming library environment, ensuring that all materials are properly shelved and accessible.
- Collaborate with teachers to integrate library resources into the curriculum and support classroom instruction.
- Assist in the development and maintenance of library displays and promotional materials to highlight new books and programs.
- Monitor student behavior in the library, ensuring a safe and respectful learning environment.
- Participate in professional development opportunities to enhance skills and knowledge related to library services and educational support.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent; associate’s degree or higher in education.
- Previous experience working in a library or educational setting is highly desirable.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to engage and motivate students.
- Familiarity with library systems, cataloging, and educational technology.
- Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team and independently as needed.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- A passion for reading, literacy, and supporting student learning.
- Ability to lift and move library materials, as well as stand for extended periods.
- Flexibility and adaptability to meet the diverse needs of students and staff.
