Position Description

This position provides professional support and educational training to faculty and staff. The Instructional Designer collaborates with and assists faculty in the design of online, hybrid, and synchronous courses and instructional practices. Responsibilities include developing learning resources, revising courses and course components to improve delivery methods, and supporting the development of online courses tailored to the needs of instructors and students. The Instructional Designer also creates and leads professional development sessions for faculty and staff to promote effective and innovative practices in teaching and learning.

  • Provide consultation and training in effective teaching strategies and research-based pedagogical approaches that support student engagement and continuous improvement in teaching and learning

  • Assist in the development of instructional strategies, course materials, assessment techniques, appropriate integration of instructional technologies and best practices for online, hybrid, and seated course formats

  • Consult with faculty and other team members on instructional design and learning objectives and collaborates to ensure course design effectively supports course and program outcomes

  • Conduct reviews of online and hybrid courses to ensure alignment with institutional quality standards

  • Develop faculty resources, guides, and templates to promote best practices in course design and delivery

Facilitate workshops, webinars, and individualized sessions that help faculty enhance online teaching practices, integrate research-based design principles, and foster student-centered, engaging learning experiences

Design and develop accessible content while maintaining knowledge of ADA compliance, Universal Design of Learning, and accessibility standards

Stay current with emerging research and best practices in instructional design, online pedagogy, and strategies that enhance teaching effectiveness and student success

Work collaboratively with the instructional design team to review, assess, and enhance learning materials and course components to ensure alignment with best practices and institutional goals

Reports regularly to manager on project status, timelines, and deliverables, ensuring effective communication and alignment with departmental goals

Qualifications

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

Strong understanding of instructional design models, course development processes, and adult learning principles


Demonstrated knowledge of and intermediate skills in technology and software applications including, computers AI-assisted tools (Microsoft Copilot) and web-based resources, such as Blackboard

Advanced knowledge and skills in instructional design, course development, and delivery methodologies for online, hybrid, and in-person learning environments

Basic knowledge of the Americans with Disabilities Act, Section 508 standards in the creation of instructional content

Ability to apply a variety of instructional methodologies, including collaborative learning, self-paced study, simulations, and active learning strategies

Ability to work effectively both independently and as a part of a collaborative team environment

Strong problem-solving and logical reasoning skills, with the ability to troubleshoot instructional or design-related issues.

Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to build positive, productive working relationships

Able to maintain records accurately and be able to meet deadlines consistently

Excellent organizational skills

Excellent communication skills both written and verbal

Intermediate skills with M365 applications


Requirements:


Master’s degree in Instructional Design, Education, or related field

Experience in designing, developing, and implementing courses for online, hybrid, and synchronous learning

Experience providing professional development, training, or support for faculty and staff in instructional design, educational technology, or online teaching best practices

Required to travel to different campus or site locations

Valid Driver's license and approval required by the College’s liability insurance carrier


Preferences:


Experience producing learning materials in a variety of formats including print, graphics, audio, video, animation and multimedia to support teaching, learning, and course redesign needs

Proficiency with developing instructional products that incorporate audio and video features for synchronous and asynchronous courses, podcasts, webinars, YouTube videos, tutorials, performance support tools, , interactive lesson modules, etc.
