Position Title: Instructional Designer
Reports Directly To: Dean of Curriculum and Academic Innovation
FLSA Status: Exempt
Salary: $85,000

Job Description:

The Instructional Designer provides strategic leadership and advanced instructional design expertise to support high-quality, student-centered, and innovative academic programs. This role is responsible for leading the design, development, evaluation, and continuous improvement of online, hybrid, and technology-enhanced courses and programs. The Instructional Designer partners closely with faculty, academic leadership, and institutional stakeholders to ensure curriculum alignment, accreditation compliance, accessibility, and the effective integration of evidence-based teaching and learning practices.

Working collaboratively across Academic Affairs, Institutional Effectiveness, Information Technology, and Student Services, the Instructional Designer supports institutional goals related to student success, retention, faculty development, academic innovation, and adheres to the accrediting bodies curriculum standards.

Primary Responsibilities:

· Provide strategic leadership in instructional design, course development, and curriculum innovation across academic programs.

· Lead the design, development, and revision of online, hybrid, and face-to-face courses using evidence-based instructional design models and quality standards.

· Collaborate with faculty subject matter experts to align course objectives, learning activities, assessments, and instructional materials with program and institutional outcomes.

· Ensure curriculum alignment with accreditation standards, institutional policies, and regulatory requirements.

· Develop, implement, and oversee standardized university-wide course modules across all academic programs.

· Design, maintain, and manage standardized instructional modules utilized across all university programs.

· Promote inclusive, accessible, and equitable course design in compliance with ADA and accessibility best practices.

· Provide faculty training and mentorship to support the adoption of AI-enhanced instructional strategies, educational technologies, and learner-centered pedagogies.

· Partner with academic leadership to support new program development, course mapping, and curriculum review initiatives.

· Utilize data, assessment results, and learning analytics to inform course improvements and instructional effectiveness.

· Collaborate with Information Technology and LMS administrators to support system integrations, instructional tools, and course delivery platforms.

· Contribute to the development and facilitation of faculty professional development workshops and training sessions.

· Support quality assurance processes, including course reviews, rubric-based evaluations, and continuous improvement initiatives.

· Assist with managing instructional design project timelines, priorities, and documentation.

· Represent the institution in instructional design, online learning, and academic innovation forums as appropriate.

· Evaluate, select, and integrate AI-powered instructional tools to enhance curriculum design, teaching effectiveness, and student learning experiences.

· Use data and analytics from AI-enabled tools and the LMS to inform continuous improvement and evidence-based curriculum decisions.

· Stay current on emerging AI technologies, regulatory considerations, and higher education best practices to inform institutional strategy and innovation.

Position Qualifications:

· Master’s degree required in Instructional Design, Educational Technology, Curriculum and Instruction, Higher Education, or a related field (Doctoral degree preferred).

· Minimum of five (5) years of progressive experience in instructional design, curriculum development, or online learning in higher education.

· Demonstrated success designing and implementing high-quality online or hybrid courses and programs.

· Strong understanding of instructional design models, learning theory, assessment strategies, and quality assurance frameworks.

· Knowledge of accreditation standards, assessment methodologies, and higher education best practices.

· Experience working collaboratively with faculty, academic leaders, and cross-functional teams.

· Proficiency with learning management systems (e.g., Blackboard, Canvas), educational technologies, and multimedia tools.

· Strong project management, organizational, and problem-solving skills.

· Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.

· Commitment to fostering a diverse, inclusive, and student-centered learning environment.

· Ability to lead initiatives in a fast-paced, growth-oriented university environment
