Job Description

About Fab Lab Egypt and the Role

Fab Lab Egypt, part of San3a Tech, is a community-driven makerspace focused on digital fabrication. We provide access to a wide variety of tools and resources for makers, creatives, learners, and entrepreneurs.

Established in 2012, Fab Lab Egypt empowers a diverse community of makers through our core values: Learn, Make, Share. We offer flexible access to facilities, discovery tours, hands-on orientations and workshops, creative residencies, and mentorship for hardware startups. We also provide professional manufacturing services in single units or small batches, along with expert support in design and prototyping. Additionally, we set up and support new makerspaces and innovation labs, handling everything from consultation to installation and training.

The Technical Experience Senior Specialist is the technical and learning design arm of the Fab Lab Egypt, turning program strategies into concrete, hands-on experiences. Working closely with Fab Programs and Fab Lab teams, they translate target audiences, goals, and themes into real workshops, bootcamps, residencies, and tech-driven tracks by researching new tools and formats; prototyping projects across digital fabrication, CAD, electronics, coding, and creative crafts; and developing bilingual (Arabic/English) curricula, kits, and assessments. They ensure every program is deliverable, safe, and repeatable by defining lab setups and BOMs, maintaining clear documentation and playbooks, and onboarding and coordinating instructors and freelance facilitators around the content they’ve designed. Through this work, this position drives high-quality learning journeys that genuinely build skills, prototypes, and ventures, while keeping Fab Lab Egypt’s programs technically robust, learner-centered, and constantly evolving.

Key Responsibilities

  • Technical R&D and Prototyping – Research, prototype, and test new tools, machines, and sample projects across domains such as digital fabrication, CAD, electronics and physical computing, coding, and creative crafts to inform current and future programs..

  • Program Formats R&D – Experiment with and document new hands-on learning formats (e.g., workshops, bootcamps, residencies, tech tracks in incubators) and propose improvements to existing formats.

  • Learner and Context Analysis – Collect and analyze data about target learners and program contexts, including needs, goals, constraints, and prior experience.

  • Learning Experience Design – Set learning objectives, define target audiences, and design experiential learning journeys and agendas for educational modules, programs, and events that lead to tangible outcomes such as skills, prototypes, and ventures.

  • Content and Curriculum Development – Develop and structure instructional materials and curricula, including lesson plans, instructor guides, learner guides, presentations, and video tutorials, in both Arabic and English.

  • Kits, BOMs, and Lab Tools – Design and develop educational kits and activities, define detailed bills of materials (BOMs), and specify lab setup, tools, and safety requirements to ensure smooth, safe, and repeatable delivery of learning experiences.

  • Assessment and Evidence of Learning – Create assessment tools, criteria, and rubrics that measure skills acquisition, project outcomes, and learner progress.

  • Documentation and Knowledge Management – Maintain organized repositories of curricula, BOMs, project files, code, and fabrication files; create and update internal playbooks and documentation so other team members and instructors can deliver content independently.

  • Instructional Coordination and Team Onboarding – Lead, guide, and support small teams of instructors and freelance facilitators for specific programs by providing technical onboarding, content walk-throughs, teaching aids, and continuous follow-up during implementation.

  • Training and Instruction – Facilitate and deliver selected workshops, training sessions, and demos as part of Fab Lab Egypt’s programs and events.

  • Communications and Marketing Support – Provide accurate descriptions, visuals, and technical highlights of programs and activities to the marketing team.

  • Stakeholder, Partner, and Expert Engagement – with key stakeholders, partners, and external mentors or technical experts to curate technical input, co-design activities where needed, and ensure alignment between program goals and stakeholder expectations.

  • Strategy & Portfolio – Contribute operational insight to strengthen portfolio design, improve execution feasibility, and enhance overall program effectiveness.
