Departmental Overview
Berkeley Public Health (BPH) aims to improve population health, especially for the most vulnerable, through interdisciplinary collaborations, preeminent education, and transformational research. Established in 1943, BPH is a professional school on the UC Berkeley campus that comprises six academic divisions and nearly 30 research centers and programs. BPH Online is designed for working professionals to complete an MPH degree remotely in just over two years. Coursework is delivered primarily online, with two on-campus periods of face-to-face instruction during summer on the Berkeley campus. Students take 14 courses (42 units) to meet degree requirements at a pace of two courses per semester for seven semesters. Courses are offered in the summer sessions (our summer semester), so students enrolled continuously will graduate in 27 months. The program admits twice a year, with cohorts starting in spring and fall.

Position Summary
Involves designing instructional content for self-phase online courses, creating interactive media content, and building content modules in various learning systems and platforms using a variety of software applications in support of academic and professional programs.

Responsibilities
Applies advanced instructional design skills to articulate course design for a diverse array of graduate and post-graduate public health courses, including specialized quantitative subjects.
This involves carefully crafting learning objectives and outcomes, integrating supportive learning activities and assessments tailored to the unique demands of these courses.
Recommends faculty and teaching assistants appropriate technologies and pedagogical strategies grounded in data analysis to enhance and solve issues related to student engagement and knowledge acquisition in large online self-paced courses.
Supports faculty and staff in the creation of multimedia content, including interactive learning activities, video, or audio components, and oversees the production of course content according to an established schedule.
Contributes to analytical testing of content and tools to meet ADA requirements, research and document copyright for embedded media and other non-faculty-created content.
Works in a collaborative manner with other instructional designers, technology staff, faculty, and teaching assistants and demonstrates diplomacy and tact in all communications.
Works in a collaborative manner with others in a diverse environment and at all levels in the organization to design specialized training that supports students in quantitative courses.
Engages in professional development to stay abreast of the latest trends and advancements in instructional design and online education.
Participates in workshops, trainings, and other professional development activities.

Required Qualifications
Thorough knowledge of functional area and understands how work within one course may impact work being done on other courses or in other areas.
Thorough analytical skills to conduct analysis and develop recommendations, demonstrating organization and problem-solving skills.
Strong analytical, verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills and strong collaboration and negotiation skills.
Thorough knowledge of and/or can quickly learn organization policies and procedures, including policies that impact online course development.
Thorough knowledge of instructional design principles and learning strategies, including needs analysis, backwards design, learning outcomes and assessment design, and instructional approaches including lecture, discussion, activities, projects, etc.
Thorough knowledge of the technical tools and platforms required to achieve the delivery of engaging and media-rich online learning content, and of trends in the use and effectiveness of educational technology and learning.
Thorough knowledge and skills with relevant business software systems.
Thorough knowledge of applying adult learning theories and educational methodologies.
Thorough knowledge of e-learning strategies including but not limited to courses (e.g., processes and technologies, etc.).
Advanced level skills in application of planning, resourcing and monitoring of effective design life cycles of training and other learning and performance solutions to support the organization.
Knowledge to conduct appropriate job and task analyses in the context of instructional design of technical or specialized training.
Bachelor's degree in related area and/or equivalent experience/training.
Preferred Qualifications
Master's degree in public health, educational technology, instructional design and/or equivalent experience/training.

This range takes into account the wide range of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including but not limited to experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, analysis of internal equity, and other business and organizational needs. It is not typical for an individual to be offered a salary at or near the top of the range for a position. Salary offers are determined based on final candidate qualifications and experience.
The budgeted annual salary range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position is $89,250.00 - $95,000.00.
This is an exempt monthly-paid position.
