Instructional Designer - Children’s AI Education

Overview
We are building an innovative AI education platform for children ages 8–12 that teaches AI literacy, ethics, and critical thinking through interactive scenarios. We need an experienced instructional designer to create learning pathways and module structures for our app and companion robot.

About the Project

• Platform teaching children how AI works, not just how to use it
• Topics include: AI bias, fairness, hallucinations, privacy, transparency
• Interactive app + physical robot companion experiences
• Focus on discovery-based learning (child as teacher/detective, not passive learner)

What You’ll Do

• Design learning module structures (discovery → exploration → practice → mission → reflection)
• Create age-appropriate learning progressions for ages 8–9, 10–11, and 12+
• Develop assessment frameworks that measure awareness, understanding, detection, and application
• Map learning objectives to interactive scenarios
• Ensure modules align with cognitive development stages
• Design both digital (app) and physical (robot) learning activities

Required Skills

• 5+ years instructional design experience
• Experience designing for children / K–8 education
• Knowledge of cognitive development stages (Piaget, Vygotsky)
• Familiarity with gamification in education
• Understanding of AI/technology concepts (doesn’t need to be an expert)
• Experience with learning management systems or educational apps
• Portfolio of children’s educational content

Preferred Skills

• Background in STEM or computer science education
• Experience with educational standards (ISTE, NGSS, Common Core)
• Knowledge of Universal Design for Learning (UDL)
• Experience with bilingual/multicultural curriculum design
• Familiarity with social-emotional learning (SEL) frameworks

Deliverables

• 6 complete learning module structures (templates with objectives, activities, assessments)
• Learning progression map across age groups
• Assessment rubric framework
• Activity design templates for app and robot interactions
• Documentation of pedagogical approach
