About the Role


The University of Missouri (MU) School of Medicine is embarking on an exciting transformation of its curriculum to better prepare the next generation of physicians. As we reshape and modernize how medical education is delivered, we seek a forward-thinking Instructional Designer III to play a key role in this evolution.

This position will collaborate with faculty, curriculum leaders, and staff to design and implement innovative, evidence-based educational strategies across both pre-clinical and clinical learning environments. The Instructional Designer will be central to ensuring that MU’s MD program continues to meet the highest standards of teaching excellence, student engagement, and accreditation.

Key Responsibilities:

Curriculum Innovation & Design


Support the design, revision, and evaluation of MD program curriculum.
Apply learning science and instructional design principles to enhance student learning and performance.
Develop instructional materials and teaching strategies for in-person and online formats, ensuring ADA compliance and best practices.
Map course content to program outcomes and accreditation standards (e.g., LCME, AAMC).

Faculty Collaboration


Partner with faculty and course directors to integrate effective, modern teaching methods.
Provide resources, toolkits, and consultation to advance instructional practices.
Support faculty development and co-lead training initiatives.

Scholarly & Leadership Activities


Supervise and mentor curriculum staff.
Support the dissemination of educational innovations through research and publications.
Ensure timely content delivery, quality documentation, and knowledge sharing.

Shift


Shift Type:

Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., with occasional evening or weekend responsibilities.


Minimum Qualifications


Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and experience and at least 3 years of experience from which comparable knowledge and skills can be acquired is necessary.

Preferred Qualifications


Education:

Master’s Degree


Years of Experience:

Minimum 2 years of experience in instructional design and Minimum 2 years formal supervisory experience


Niche Professional Interests:

Familiarity with medical education standards and accreditation (LCME, AAMC) - Experience in medical education or working with clinical faculty - Knowledge of educational research and program evaluation methods - Proficiency with Canvas LMS, multimedia programs, and accessibility standards (UDL, ADA, Section 508)


Anticipated Hiring Range


Salary Range: $52,915.20 to $85,000.00
