Duties And Responsibilities

The Instructor of English Language will be expected to:

  • Teach English language service courses (e.g., Academic English, EAP, ESP, Communication Skills) to undergraduate students from a range of academic disciplines.
  • Support students’ development of reading, writing, listening, speaking, and academic study skills appropriate to university-level learning.
  • Apply sound TESOL / ESL / EFL pedagogical approaches suitable for higher education learners.
  • Contribute to the design, review, and continuous improvement of skill-oriented English language courses, ensuring alignment with program learning outcomes and institutional benchmarks.
  • Prepare and update course syllabi, instructional materials, assessments, and learning resources in line with best practices.
  • Employ educational technologies and digital platforms to enhance teaching effectiveness and student engagement.
  • Provide constructive feedback and academic support to students, with particular sensitivity to bilingual and multilingual learners.
  • Participate in departmental meetings, curriculum review processes, and quality assurance activities.
  • Engage in ongoing professional development and remain current with developments in English language teaching and applied linguistics.
  • Contribute positively to the collegial and academic environment of the College and the University.

Qualifications And Experience

Applicants must meet the following minimum requirements :

  • Native proficiency in English (Anglophone).
  • A Master’s degree (MA) in English Language, TESOL, Applied Linguistics, or a closely related discipline from an accredited institution.
  • 5–10 years of teaching experience in higher education, preferably in university-level ESL/EFL contexts.
  • Demonstrated experience teaching English to non-English-major students enrolled in academic or professional programs.
  • A recognized TESOL certification or equivalent professional teaching qualification.
  • Proven experience in curriculum development, course review, and assessment design for skill-based English language courses.
  • Strong communication, organizational, and classroom management skills.

Preferred Qualifications

The following qualifications are desirable:

  • Experience teaching bilingual or multilingual students, particularly those from Arabic-speaking backgrounds.
  • Familiarity with CEFR-aligned curricula and outcomes-based assessment.
  • Prior experience in international or Gulf-region higher education institutions.
  • Ability to adapt teaching strategies to culturally diverse learning environments.
  • Evidence of sustained engagement in professional development related to English language teaching.
