Department: Electrical, Instrumentation and Control (EIC)
Position Summary:
The Instrument Specialist supports the reliable operation of KRMA’s wastewater treatment facility by maintaining and troubleshooting electrical, instrumentation, and control systems.
Duties Included but Not Limited to:
- Maintain and troubleshoot SCADA/automation systems (AVEVA, PLCs, VFDs, HMIs)
- Configure and maintain networking and communication systems (Ethernet/IP, DeviceNet, RSLinx).
- Calibrate and maintain process instrumentation (DO, ORP, TSS, chlorine, sulfur dioxide, gas detection, flow, pressure, level, etc.)
- Operate, maintain and troubleshoot electrical switchgear, MCCs, generators, boilers, actuators and instrumentation
- Support HVAC and mechanical control systems
- Coordinate repairs and document work activities utilizing CMMS
- This position works a 40-hour week 7am-3pm, Monday – Friday and may require some overtime
Minimum Qualifications
- Two years college level training in industrial electrical controls OR
- Two years industrial electrical experience including instrumentation, controls and troubleshooting
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Experience in the Water or Wastewater field preferred
- Valid Illinois Driver’s License
- Must be able to pass pre-employment screenings including drug, alcohol, physical, and background
Preferred Skills
- Knowledge of SCADA systems, PLC programming, and industrial networking
- Experience with Allen-Bradley platforms (PLCs, VFDs, HMIs) and Johnson Controls systems
- Strong background in instrumentation calibration and troubleshooting
- Familiarity with electrical safety standards (NFPA 70E, OSHA)
