Duties
- Review and process medical claims using Electronic Medical Record (EMR) and Electronic Health Record (EHR) systems to ensure accuracy and completeness.
- Assign appropriate diagnosis codes (ICD-9, ICD-10) and procedure codes (CPT) to support billing submissions.
- Verify insurance coverage, DRG (Diagnosis-Related Group) classifications, and patient eligibility before submitting claims.
- Follow up on unpaid or denied claims through effective communication with insurance providers to secure timely reimbursements.
- Maintain detailed medical records, ensuring all documentation aligns with billing requirements and medical terminology standards.
- Collaborate with medical office staff to resolve discrepancies related to medical records or coding errors.
- Stay updated on changes in medical coding regulations, insurance policies, and billing procedures to ensure compliance.
Requirements
- Proven experience in medical billing, coding, or related healthcare administrative roles.
- Strong knowledge of DRG classifications, CPT coding, ICD-9, ICD-10 coding systems, and medical terminology.
- Familiarity with EMR/EHR systems used for managing medical records and billing data.
- Excellent understanding of medical collection processes and insurance claim submission workflows.
- Ability to interpret complex medical records accurately and apply appropriate codes efficiently.
- Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills to manage multiple claims simultaneously.
- Effective communication skills for liaising with insurance companies, healthcare providers, and patients.
