About SteerAI
SteerAI is an autonomous mobility technology company powered by VentureOne, the commercialization arm of the Advanced Technology Research Council. SteerAI’s advanced AI-powered autonomy stack, developed by the Technology Innovation Institute, empowers the logistics and defense industries by turning industrial vehicles into autonomous powerhouses that can handle complex off-road missions, transform operations and protect organizations' most important assets: their workforce.
About the role
We are looking for an Integration & Test Engineer to integrate, commission, test, and document SteerAI’s autonomous ground vehicle platforms. This role spans the full lifecycle, from software integration and vehicle commissioning through operational trial execution, post-mission reporting, and technical documentation. The role supports both internal trials and commercial customer deployments.
Key Responsibilities
-
Software Integration:
Integrate autonomy software, and configuration packages into the different platforms. Verify software builds against release notes, run integration tests, and resolve compatibility issues across hardware and software subsystems.
-
Commissioning:
Lead end-to-end vehicle commissioning for both trial campaigns and commercial customer deployments. Execute system health checks, sensor calibration, communication link verification, and acceptance test procedures to confirm platform readiness.
-
Test Planning and Execution:
Translate trial objectives into executable test procedures and scenarios. Define success criteria, instrumentation plans, and safety boundaries. Direct day-to-day test operations in the field and make real-time decisions on scenario modifications within the approved envelope.
-
Technical Documentation:
Create and maintain user manuals, operator training materials, troubleshooting guides, commissioning checklists, and integration procedures. Compile mission metrics and contribute to Operational Insight Briefs and commercial handover documentation.
-
Field Preparation and Troubleshooting:
Execute field deployment checklists alongside the UGV / C2 Operator. Troubleshoot hardware and software issues, perform field-level maintenance, and escalate technical problems to the engineering team.
-
Vehicle Operation (Cross-Training):
Maintain proficiency in operating UGVs through the C2/FMS interface and remote control, including real-time monitoring, telemetry oversight, and emergency intervention procedures.
Qualifications
-
Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Robotics, Mechatronics, Electrical Engineering, Systems Engineering, Computer Engineering, or related field.
-
2+ years of experience in systems integration, test and evaluation, commissioning, or technical operations in defence, aerospace, robotics, or autonomous systems.
-
Familiarity with autonomous vehicle systems, sensor suites (cameras, GNSS, IMU, lidar/radar), and communication systems.
-
Comfortable working in outdoor field environments in various weather conditions.
-
Methodical approach to checklists, procedures, and safety protocols.
-
Proficiency in software integration workflows: flashing firmware, deploying configuration packages, running integration and regression tests. Hands-on experience operating unmanned ground vehicles, robotic systems, or remote-controlled platforms.
-
Experience with structured test methodologies and evaluation frameworks (e.g., DT&E, OT&E). Familiarity with commissioning and acceptance testing procedures.
-
Strong technical writing skills: proven ability to produce user manuals, training materials, troubleshooting guides, and test reports.
-
Valid driver’s license.
