The Interim Municipal Judge is responsible for overseeing the judicial processes within the city’s local court system, ensuring that justice is administered fairly, efficiently, and in accordance with local laws and ordinances. The Interim Municipal Judge presides over cases involving violations of city municipal code and civil ordinances infractions (not exceeding $2,500), traffic violations, and criminal misdemeanor offences. The Interim Municipal Judge interprets and applies the law, ensures the rights of all parties are respected, and delivers decisions based on legal standards and evidence.

The candidate selected will acknowledge, prior to appointment by the City Council, on the public record, that they understand the appointment is temporary and with the understanding that the candidate selected will not run for the office in the 2026 Municipal Court Election.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

1. Must devote full time to the interim position
2. Be a duly licensed member of the State Bar of Nevada in good standing, and have other such requirements as prescribed by any ordinance and City Charter
3. Be a current resident of the city of Las Vegas for a period of not less than 30 days
4. Not currently subject to disciplinary action by the State Bar of Nevada or any other court or tribunal
5. Not have been previously removed or retired from Judicial Office by the Commission on Judicial Discipline

Elected Officials Benefit Plan - 2025

Medical, Prescription, Dental, and Vision Insurance and Related Coverages
  • Covered the first of the month following date of employment. Five medical plans, two dental and two vision plans are available. City pays 100% of employee premium + 50% of dependent premium.
  • Annual Health and Educational Wellness Reimbursement plan – may apply for reimbursement up to $2,400 annually for out of pocket health and wellness expenses, and specified educational expenses.
  • Flexible Spending Accounts – IRS - pre-tax contributions for reimbursement of health-related and/or dependent care expenses
  • Annual physical exams - If covered by a City health plan, eligible for a comprehensive
    wellness physical exam annually at no cost at ARC Health and Wellness (also for covered spouse and dependents over age 18).
  • Elected Officials may apply for reimbursement up to $5,000 once every 24 months for an
    executive physical.



Retirement
  • Eligible to participate in the Nevada Public Employees’ Retirement System (PERS). Five years’ minimum service credit required to be eligible for a vested benefit, plus age requirements. PERS is a defined benefit plan; and the City of Las Vegas does not require direct employee contributions.

Deferred Compensation Plan
  • The city offers a 457(b) and a 401(a) Plan, which is a deferred compensation plan similar to a 401(k) plan; it offers both pre-tax and after-tax savings and investment options, and specified matching funds from the City. Matching funds are vested upon five years of City service or at age 65.

Life and AD&D Insurance
  • City provides $100,000 insurance at no cost.
  • Additional voluntary life insurance and AD&D insurance available for purchase.
  • Elected Officials – after 2 years of service as an Elected Official, City will provide $25,000 additional life insurance, which will be permanently continued after separation.

Disability Insurance
  • City provides long term disability insurance at no cost: LTD - Benefits begin after 90 days of disability. Payment is up to 70% of earnings, up to $15,000/month.
