Location: Hybrid (in-office 3 days/week, optional remote 2 days/week)- occasionally in-person client meetings get scheduled on remote days, must be flexible.

Purpose of the Role

The Interior Designer is responsible for helping our team execute residential and commercial projects from concept through completion, working under the guidance of the Design Director. This role requires both creative vision and technical expertise, balancing trend-setting ideas with practical implementation. The Interior Designer is expected to deliver innovative, polished, and detail-oriented design solutions that reflect MCI’s brand of inclusivity, creativity, and professionalism.

Scope

This position is client-facing and project-driven, requiring daily use of design software, material sourcing, and collaboration with vendors, contractors, and clients. The Interior Designer will manage multiple projects simultaneously, contribute original ideas, and uphold high standards of design execution. They will also provide support in networking and team initiatives as needed.

Key Responsibilities

1. Design & Concept Development

  • Develop innovative design concepts for residential and commercial projects.
  • Create mood boards, space plans, renderings, and presentation materials that align with project goals.
  • Stay ahead of industry trends and introduce forward-thinking design solutions.
  • Translate client needs into cohesive, functional, and aesthetically distinct outcomes.

2. Technical & Production Work

  • Produce detailed drawings and plans using AutoCAD.
  • Develop 3D models in SketchUp to support client presentations and design review.
  • Prepare polished documents and visuals in InDesign and Photoshop.
  • Manage product and materials specifications in project management software and spreadsheets.
  • Ensure accuracy and completeness of all technical documentation.

3. Project Management Support

  • Collaborate with the Design Director to execute projects from start to finish.
  • Track timelines, budgets, and deliverables to keep projects on schedule.
  • Assist in coordinating with contractors, consultants, and vendors.
  • Conduct site visits, field measurements, and oversee installations as assigned.

4. Client Interaction

  • Participate in client meetings and presentations, representing MCI with professionalism and confidence.
  • Respond promptly and professionally to client communications.
  • Ensure that clients feel guided and supported throughout the design process.

5. Team & Studio Support

  • Collaborate with peers to uphold a strong team culture.
  • Step in on occasional clerical or studio-support tasks, such as errands or office needs, as requested.
  • Participate in networking, marketing, or events to support business development.

Qualifications

  • Education & Experience:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Interior Design + minimum 2 years of professional experience, OR
  • Associate’s degree in Interior Design + minimum 3 years of professional experience.

Technical Proficiency:

  • Strong skills in AutoCAD, SketchUp, and InDesign (non-negotiable).
  • Working knowledge of Photoshop and Excel/Google Sheets.
  • Experience with project/product management platforms preferred.

Metrics for Success

  • Projects are executed on time, within budget, and to client satisfaction.
  • Deliverables (drawings, models, presentations) are accurate, polished, and innovative.
  • Clients consistently provide positive feedback on communication and outcomes.
  • Collaboration with contractors, vendors, and internal team members is smooth and effective.
  • Studio culture is supported through reliability, positivity, and teamwork.

Compensation & Benefits

  • Pay Range: $17.00 – $25.00 per hour, dependent on experience.
