Interior Designer

Interior Designer

Full-Time | Encinitas, CA | On-Site

Green Room Design Build is a high-end residential design-build firm delivering custom homes and renovations through a fully integrated process. The team values thoughtful design, disciplined execution, and close collaboration between design and construction.

As project volume and complexity continue to grow, Green Room is seeking an Interior Designer to guide clients through a clear, well-structured design process while ensuring alignment with construction, budget, and schedule expectations.

About the Role

The Interior Designer plays a central role in shaping the look, feel, and functionality of each project-from early concept development through final installation. This position works closely with clients, design leadership, and the construction team to ensure selections are cohesive, well-documented, and executable in the field.

This is not a purely conceptual studio role. Green Room is looking for a designer who understands how decisions impact procurement, scheduling, and construction-and who approaches design as both a creative and operational discipline.

In addition to delivering strong design outcomes, this role helps ensure overall production performance remains predictable through effective coordination, proactive risk identification, and clear leadership guidance throughout the selections and documentation process.

This is a full-time, in-office role based in Encinitas, CA.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead interior design efforts for custom homes, remodels, and additions
  • Develop design concepts, material palettes, and finish selections
  • Prepare and maintain organized schedules for selections, specifications, and approvals
  • Produce clear, construction-ready documentation
  • Coordinate closely with project managers, builders, and trade partners
  • Guide clients through decisions with clarity and confidence
  • Track selections through ordering, delivery, and installation
  • Identify potential design-related risks that could impact budget or schedule
  • Maintain structured, organized project files and documentation

Tech Stack & Tools

Green Room uses a practical, well-supported toolset to maintain coordination and clarity across design and production. Experience with every tool is not required, but comfort working within structured systems is essential.

Design & Documentation (Required): Chief Architect and/or AutoCAD

Nice to Have (Not Required): Revit

Visualization & Presentation: SketchUp, Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Photoshop)

Selections & Specification Tracking: Excel / Google Sheets

Project Management: Design-build project management software (JobTread or similar)

Communication & File Management: Email, shared drives, structured cloud-based project folders

What Success Looks Like

  • Clients feel guided, confident, and well-supported throughout the design process
  • Selections are cohesive, buildable, and aligned with project budget and scope
  • Documentation is clear, complete, and construction-ready
  • Design decisions minimize rework and field changes
  • Design and construction teams operate in sync
  • Production performance remains steady and predictable through proactive coordination and oversight

Qualifications

  • 3+ years of residential interior design experience (design-build experience strongly preferred)
  • Proficiency in Chief Architect and/or AutoCAD
  • Strong understanding of residential materials, finishes, and detailing
  • Detail-oriented with strong organizational discipline
  • Clear communicator comfortable in client-facing conversations
  • Comfortable working fully on-site in a collaborative environment
