Position Summary
The Interior Designer is responsible for creating aesthetically pleasing and functional spaces that meet client needs and align with the company’s design vision. This role involves working closely with clients to understand their preferences and requirements and translating those into creative design solutions. The Interior Designer will work on projects from concept through completion, including space planning, estimation, material selection, and coordination with the project team. Attention to detail, excellent communication skills, and the ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously are essential for success in this role. The Interior Designer will work collaboratively with the design team, ensuring that each project is executed with a high standard of quality and within budgetary and time constraints.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Design Development
- Create and develop design concepts that meet client needs and align with the company’s design standards.
- Conduct space planning, color coordination, material selection, and furniture layout for both residential and commercial projects.
- Ensure all designs are functional, aesthetically pleasing, and meet regulatory requirements.
- Collaborate with Project Managers to confirm that design concepts are buildable and efficient
- Client Collaboration
- Work closely with clients to understand their preferences, goals, and project requirements.
- Present design ideas and solutions to clients, incorporating feedback and revisions as needed.
- Maintain strong communication with clients throughout the design process, ensuring satisfaction and alignment with project objectives.
- Manage all project documentation within our project management software to keep product selections, tasks, and design documents up-to-date.
- Project Execution
- Oversee the implementation of design plans from concept to completion.
- Collaborate with suppliers and vendors to source materials and ensure timely delivery of design elements.
- Schedule Construction Planning Meetings with clients. (Meetings where the Interior Designers are Lead)
- Technical Drawings and Specifications
- Prepare detailed technical drawings, 3D renderings, and design documentation using our CAD software
- Develop and maintain accurate project specifications, ensuring all components are clearly defined and achievable.
- Coordinate with other members of the design team such as the Construction Project Administrator and the Architectural Draftsperson to ensure all designs are executed as intended.
- Project Interiors Coordination
- Manage the day-to-day aspects of multiple design projects, ensuring smooth progress and clear communication among stakeholders.
- Conduct on-site visits to monitor project progress, identify potential issues, and provide design direction as needed.
- Ensure that all design work adheres to the project scope, timeline, and budget.
- Material Selection and Procurement
- Participate in the estimating process by providing management with estimates on costs, time, and other specifications.
- Research and source materials, finishes, fixtures, and furnishings that fit within the project’s budget and design specifications.
- Order Products and use the PO App to document and track product deliveries.
- Maintain relationships with suppliers and negotiate pricing to meet budgetary constraints without compromising on quality.
- Industry Knowledge and Trends
- Stay updated on the latest trends, materials, and technology in interior design to bring fresh ideas and approaches to projects.
- Attend industry events, trade shows, and training to maintain cutting-edge design knowledge and skills.
- Quality Assurance (Interior Designer)
- Ensure that all design projects meet high standards of quality, functionality, and aesthetic appeal.
- Address any design challenges or issues that arise during the project to ensure a smooth and successful outcome.
- Conduct final inspections to ensure the project meets all design specifications and client expectations.
Work Flow Capacities
- Thinking Creatively and Interacting with Computers: Develop, design, and create new applications, ideas, relationships, systems, or products, including artistic contributions using our CAD software. Utilize creativity in designing interior and exterior spaces, considering surrounding environments and textures.
- Communicating and Performing for Public: Provide information to supervisors, peers, subordinates, and clients through various methods including meetings, written communications, and our project management software. Serve clients directly to meet their design needs effectively.

Break down data into separate parts to understand underlying principles and assess compliance with standards.
- Estimating and Drafting Technical Specifications: Estimate sizes, distances, quantities, time, costs, resources, or materials needed for activities. Provide detailed documentation, instructions, drawings, or specifications for construction and assembly.
- Organizing, Planning, and Coordinating Work: Develop specific goals and plans to prioritize, organize, and accomplish your work, including managing artistic or design projects and overseeing the design department to ensure collaborative and high-quality outcomes.
- Inspecting and Monitoring Processes: Inspect materials and monitor processes, materials, or surroundings to ensure quality and detect or assess problems.
- Documenting/Recording Information and Communicating Externally: Manage comprehensive documentation and communication efforts, representing the organization to external sources through presentations and design discussions.
- Establishing Relationships and Team Building: Develop constructive and cooperative working relationships, and encourage team trust, respect, and cooperation.
- Scheduling Activities and Processing Information: Schedule appointments and manage project timelines while compiling, coding, categorizing, calculating, and verifying information or data.
- Judging Qualities and Evaluating Compliance: Assess the value, importance, or quality of things or people and ensure that project processes comply with relevant laws, regulations, and standards.

Minimum Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities)
Supervisory Responsibilities:
- Ability to serve as lead designer on a project - working and delegating with others, ensuring tasks are completed accurately and on-time
- Assist in training new team members on company and design policy and processes as assigned
Education and Experience:
- Preferred Education: Minimum of a two-year degree in the area of Design or a related field.
- Experience: Minimum of 3 to 5 years of experience in interior design
- Key Skills: Possess excellent customer service skills.
Language Skills:
- Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.
- Capable of writing reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.
- Effective presentation skills to communicate information and respond to questions from groups including managers, clients, subcontractors, tradesmen, and the general public.
Mathematical Skills:
- Proficient in calculating figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume.
- Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.
Reasoning Ability:
- Capable of defining problems, collecting data, establishing facts, and drawing valid conclusions.
- Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
Computer Operations:
- Proficient in personal computer skills including email, record keeping, routine database activity, word processing, spreadsheets, graphics, and CAD-type programs.
- Proficiency should extend to the use of technology like smartphones.
Planning/Organization Skills:
- Ability to prioritize tasks and handle multiple projects simultaneously.
- Capable of working independently or as a team member, and delegating assignments effectively.
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:
- Pursue any certification as requested by senior management.
- Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license with no DUI convictions.
- Required to maintain vehicle insurance coverage and have access to a vehicle.
