Positions Description:

INTERIOR DESIGNER (Other positions available)

PURPOSE: The Interior Designer shall work with the Engineering Service Planning Section as an Interior Designer under the Interior Design Section. Under the responsibility of the VA Supervisory, Interior Designer shall develop deadlines, overall objectives, resources available and tasks necessary to complete the work. The Interior Designer shall be responsible for independently, planning and carrying out the assigned tasks to meet the objectives of the Interior Design Section, including overseeing and assisting with major project activations, moves, space planning, budgeting, preparing packages for furniture, finishes, and equipment purchases, management of delivery and installation. The completed work shall be reviewed by the Supervisory Interior Designer for effectiveness in meeting all requirements.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

INTERIOR DESIGN SERVICES: The Interior Designer shall be relied upon to independently create and execute appropriate design services for varied spaces with offices, conference rooms, patient care exam rooms, patient treatment rooms, waiting rooms, entry lobbies, break rooms, and support rooms including Housekeeping Aid Closets, storage and stock rooms throughout all the major construction projects. Performs technical, administrative or professional work involving managing, administering, operating or supporting services and programs related to the operation and safety of Federal facilities. Engages in activities related to the management and/or administration of facilities. Designs building interior design environments to promote employee productivity, health and welfare, and/or health and welfare of the public. Responsibilities and tasks shall be assigned and directed by the VA Supervisory Interior Designer.

The Interior Designer shall be highly proficient in preparing detailed AutoCAD designs, plans, sketches, perspectives, color schemes and any visual aids for proposed design presentations. This involves analyzing architectural drawings and developing AutoCAD Furniture, Fixture & Equipment (FF&E) plan layers, which have been provided for systems and components of building codes, major equipment, materials, placeholder furnishings and traffic patterns. The Contractor shall interpret, and review provided architectural plans for concurrence to the VA's Technical Information Library (TIL), standards and specifications as used for the basis of current construction and procurement package development.

The Interior Designer shall produce procurement packages following VA contracting procurement standards including Statement of Work (SOW), technical specifications, attachments, documentation, drawings, independent government cost estimates, bid sheets and budgets to procure products, services and installation plans and schedules necessary to activate the major construction projects. This includes financial management related to the procurement of FF&E items, communicating with the awarded vendor & activations team regarding the status of each package, coordinating delivery & installation schedules. The Contractor shall be responsible for creating and maintaining collateral; SOW, specification writing, Independent Government Estimates (IGCE), schedules, financial control log, scaled drawings and market research related to procurement package creation, maintenance & tracking using Microsoft Office Suite & AutoCAD software.

The Interior Designer shall maintain the Interior Design Resource Library that includes drawings, plans, specification procurement documents, project correspondence, and project binders relating to various design and construction projects. Interior Designer shall also assist in the management of all orders for activation, including furnishings, accessories, art, signage, equipment, office supplies, environmental management supplies. Installation oversight tasks shall also be assigned during the installation phase. Performs other administrative duties as assigned, such as administering day-in-life scenarios, moving plans, creating schedules and attending project meetings.

The Interior Designer shall be responsible for reviewing wayfinding signage plans, furniture and artwork installation plans and directing installation crews in their work without being supervised. Responsible for identifying and creating a punch list for installed items and working with furniture dealers, installers and other involved parties to coordinate completion of punch list items.

Follows basic working knowledge of Architectural Barriers Act Accessibility Standard (ABAAS), VA Barrier Free Design Guide, VA Technical Information Library (TIL), International Code Council (ICC), Occupational Safety & Health Administration (OSHA) and National Fire Protection Agency (NFPA).

COMMUNICATION: Routinely coordinates activities with such services (Stakeholders) as Contracting, Logistics, Environmental Management Service (EMS), Office of Information Technology (Ol&T), Material Management, end users and Engineering. The Contractor shall be responsible for creating and maintaining an activation project schedule and reporting the information to the activations team. Schedules and assists with overseeing product vendor installations requiring coordination with other activation installations. The Contractor shall meet with key stakeholders involved in processes relative to transition planning. The Contractor will help the department/group assess current operations, define new operations, record and assist with gaining medical facility approval of business practices on new conditions in the space, equipment, staffing, and operations. The Contractor shall identify recommended changes and advise the activations team of the recommended changes, gaps and overlaps. The contractor shall identify departmental adjacencies; staff, patient, and visitor flow; patient transport; on-stage vs. off-stage (e.g. lobby, elevators corridors); logistical support (e.g. linen, supplies waste, deliveries); ancillary support; infection control; and security final move-in planning and training for staff end users. Collaborative meetings with end users and stakeholders will be facilitated by the Contractor to complete the transition & move-in phases of the major project.

QUALIFCATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

  • Must be familiar with Patient Centered Care culture in healthcare.
  • Ability to review and interpret blueprints and specifications.
  • Skilled in free form drawing and drawing to scale when on a job site measuring for a
  • project.
  • Preferred certifications such as National Council for Interior Design Qualification,
  • Project Management Certification, Evidenced Based Design Accreditation and Certification and/or Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design.
  • Expertise with recommendations for the selection, specification, procurement, and placement of furnishings.
  • AutoCAD, Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint & Outlook) are required.
  • Microsoft Project & Revit are beneficial but not required. Must be able to communicate effectively both in writing and verbally with a variety of contractors, management officials, vendors, Contract Officers and Long Beach staff.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $60,000.00 - $90,000.00 per year
