Make Your Summer Count: Communications Internship with The Evergreen State Fair!

Looking for an internship that is fun, builds your real-world communication skills, and has a lot of variety? This position will explore media relations, public relations, social media management, event management and so much more! Join Snohomish County’s Evergreen State Fair team as a Communication Intern! We’re hiring one motivated college student for an 8–12-week paid internship starting in May or June.

What You’ll Do

• Support the Fair Marketing and Communications team in attracting attendees to the fair.
• Write press releases, media alerts, social media, web and newsletter content.
• Gain skills in media training spokespeople, interacting with the media and influencers, pitching stories and responding to inquiries.
• Respond to social media comments and messages.

What We’re Looking For

• Someone interested in communications, public relations, marketing or media relations.
• Strong writing skills for digital content like social media and web.
• Someone who has skills in social media (identifying trends, copywriting, photo editing), content creation (website, social media and newsletters) and media relations (identifying potential opportunities and contacts etc.).
• A self-starter that has passion for communication and supporting community events.
• Someone who is comfortable working in a fast-paced environment both indoors and outdoors.
• A team player with strong communication skills, who’s not afraid to ask questions and is eager to learn new skills.

Details

• Must commit to at least 8 weeks; hours can vary per week including remote work leading up the Fair. Must be able to work at the Fair in Monroe August 27-September 1 and September 3-7, 2026.

Job Duties

STATEMENT OF ESSENTIAL INTERNSHIP DUTIES

• Assists with implementation of public engagement and communications activities for department programs and projects.

• Creates and/or edits communications content, including newsletters, press releases, social media content, special presentations, and other informational and outreach materials.

• Assists in working with the departments as needed to design, produce, and distribute informational material to the public.

• Assists in the development of a digital media strategy for distributing informational material to the public.

STATEMENT OF OTHER INTERNSHIP DUTIES

• Performs other duties as assigned with an emphasis on communication and public engagement efforts.

Minimum Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Must provide proof of enrollment in an accredited post-secondary institution at the time of the internship. For summer internships, proof of enrollment for either the summer or upcoming fall term is acceptable.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

• Preferred completion of two years of post-secondary education.
• Preferred majors or programs of study include communications, event planning, English, journalism, political science, marketing, project management, sponsorship/fundraising, or a related field.
• Preferred proficiency in Microsoft Office products.
• Preferred proficiency in social media platforms such as Meta (Facebook and Instagram), X, LinkedIn, Nextdoor, and similar tools.

• Must have a valid Washington State Driver’s License.
• If assigned to the Department of Conservation and Natural Resources: Must be available to work full-time (40 hours per week), in person, for the duration of the Evergreen State Fair.
