Intern, Federal and External Affairs, U.S. Climate Alliance

The U.S. Climate Alliance Secretariat is seeking an intern ready to contribute to its research, policy development, peer-to-peer learning, and coordination work. The intern will respond to specific project-level needs such as tracking policy progress and implementation, drafting policy briefing papers, and providing general coordination and program support. This role is an opportunity to gain a comprehensive and in-depth and understanding of the types of policies and actions U.S. states are advancing to drive down GHG emissions across the economy. The intern will be expected to work as part of a broader team that includes Alliance staff, consultants, external partners, and member states.

This is a paid opportunity from September 15th, 2025 – December 5th, 2025 and offers an hourly compensation rate range of $17.95-$20.00 per hour. This role is expected to work 20-29 hours per week during core working hours (11am - 5pm ET) on a fixed schedule.


Essential Functions

  • Working with team members to prepare materials that support major Alliance meetings and workshops.
  • Support the Alliance in Inflation Reduction Act implementation by researching trends and challenges in state implementation and communicating it to partners.
  • Support in tracking federal climate policy, funding, and comment opportunities and drafting weekly and quarterly newsletters to states.
  • Additional support tasks as needed.

Requirements

  • Applicants must be enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate program.
  • Strong research skills, ability to write and communicate clearly and concisely.
  • Demonstrated interest and experience in state climate policy and coalition building.
  • Experience, familiarity, or interest in federal climate policy.
  • Interest in innovative ways to communicate technically complex materials.
  • Be responsible, flexible, collaborative, hard‐working and committed to the mission of the U.S. Climate Alliance.
  • Fluent in English.
  • Ability to meet regular attendance/tardiness policy.
