Job Description:

SUMMARY


Under the direction of the dean (Associate/School Dean), PALs use their knowledge, experience, and training to welcome and guide incoming first-year students through their first semester/academic year. Assist with the coordination of and provide firsthand insights into school-based programming, extracurricular activities, and serve as a resource agent regarding other academic support services. Collaborate with faculty, staff, and other student leaders to strengthen the overall student experience. This role is essential in supporting student engagement, belonging, and retention.


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS


  • Assist with school-based onboarding and programming initiatives, academic-related outreach activities and events
  • Help students understand how to access college and school resources and assist with referrals (e.g., counseling, advising, tutoring, financial assistance)
  • Serve as a positive role model, promoting active learning and engagement with faculty, campus organizations and events to foster a sense of belonging
  • Provide information on career-related and experiential learning opportunities
  • Assist with communication and outreach initiatives related to retention efforts
  • Assist with FYE programming, workshops, and success initiatives
  • May conduct Student Success workshops and info sessions
  • May assist the office staff with general administrative duties

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Must be currently enrolled at Tri-C and have completed at least two semesters with a minimum of 24 credits earned including ENG 1010
  • Maintain a minimum of 2.8/4.0 GPA each semester of employment and have a clear judicial record upon and throughout employment
  • Desire and enthusiasm to support Tri-C students in succeeding and graduating
  • Familiarity with campus resources and student support services
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, collaboration, and problem-solving skills
  • Capacity for discretion, diplomacy, and confidentiality
  • Serve as a positive role model by demonstrating ethical behavior and good judgement
  • Ability to effectively interact with students, faculty, and staff
  • Interest in leadership, mentorship, or student development
  • Open-mindedness toward a wide variety of cultures, lifestyles, backgrounds, and demographics
  • Experience with MS Office and Brightspace
  • Excellent customer service skills
  • Maintain awareness of current course offerings, program pre-requisites, major and general requirements

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS


  • Previous student leadership or work-related leadership experience
  • Satisfactorily Completed GEN 1070 or HTEC 1070


TERMS AND BENEFITS


  • Up to three semesters (contingent upon successful performance reviews and student enrollment status)
  • Peer Advising Leaders will undergo paid professional development sessions, where they will learn (or brush up on) technology tools (i.e., MyTri-C Space; Degree Works; BrightSpace; SmartPlan) and peer facilitation skills
  • Hours per week: A minimum of 10 hours per week and up to 15 hours per week based on the School Dean needs
  • Compensation/Benefits: $15.45 per hour and one paid course (up to 3 credit hours)

Special Note: If hired, you must reside in the state of Ohio and be within commuting distance of this work location/campus to respond to onsite work demands upon the employment start date and throughout the duration of your employment with the College, as outlined in 3354:1-40-01.1 Recruitment and Selection Procedure.
