Otsuka’s internship program, Intern the Otsuka Way (InTOW), offers students a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience and develop critical skills while contributing to meaningful projects. Interns will work alongside experienced professionals, learn about the complexities of the pharmaceutical industry, and gain insights into potential career paths. By combining practical experience with professional development, our program prepares interns for future success. Our internship program also includes instructor led trainings, a leadership engagement series, as well as insightful lunch and learns.

Job Description
The Promotion Compliance Intern will support the Promotional Review Committee (PRC) and broader regulatory, legal, and marketing stakeholders by contributing to key compliance, documentation, and processenhancement initiatives. With the recent heightened focus on OPDP (Office of Prescription Drug Promotion) enforcement, this role provides hands-on exposure to how pharmaceutical promotional materials are evaluated for regulatory risk and how compliant processes are built and maintained.

The intern will lead and support projects related to analyzing enforcement trends, refining internal work instructions, building reference tools, and creating a centralized, searchable database of FDA advisory comments. This internship offers practical experience at the intersection of regulatory affairs, promotional compliance, legal review, and pharmaceutical marketing. By the end of the internship, the intern will:

  • Develop a practical understanding of pharmaceutical promotional compliance—learning how FDA and OPDP expectations shape the creation, review, and approval of promotional materials across Marketing, Legal, Regulatory, Medical, and Commercial teams.
  • Build foundational skills in promotional policy development, documentation, and process optimization, gaining insight into how academic regulatory principles translate into real‑world PRC operations.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Analyze FDA enforcement letters, summarizing trends, regulatory expectations, and implications for PRC reviewers and marketing teams.
  • Develop a white paper summarizing key regulatory and legal considerations in promotional review, including:
  • Recurring promotional risks
  • DSE (Disease State Education) boundaries
  • Implied claims
  • Investigational communication standards
  • Develop one‑page guidance documents to support consistent, repeatable processes across teams, especially for rare disease and accelerated approval pathways.
  • Rebuild a database of past FDA advisory comments, ensuring the tool is searchable, easy to update, and able to support legal and PRC reviewers across products.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams including Legal, Regulatory Affairs, Medical Affairs, and Marketing to ensure clear alignment on promotion policy and expectations.
  • Prepare memos, summaries, and reference materials to support dissemination of compliance insights across the organization.
Minimum:
  • Must have completed a BA/BS from an accredited college or university by the start of the internship.
  • Authorization to work in the United States for the duration of the internship.

Additional Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Interest in, or prior exposure to, the pharmaceutical industry.
  • Completion of at least one year of law school, at least two years of PharmD training, or study in a scientific or regulatory field.
  • Experience with regulatory writing, compliance, policy interpretation, or promotional review concepts.
  • Ability to synthesize complex regulatory information into clear, practical guidance.

Minimum $29.00 - Maximum $35.00: The range shown represents a typical pay range or starting pay for individuals who are hired to perform the role in the United States. Other elements may be used to determine actual pay such as the candidate’s educational background and specific skills.
