Intern - Victim Services Unit

JOB
The purpose of this position is to provide a continuum of victim support from crisis through investigation and judicial processes and provide crisis intervention, medical and legal advocacy, and emotional support. This class works under general supervision, independently developing work methods and sequences. This class is intended to grow a student’s capacity and understanding of victim services provision within a law enforcement agency.

EXAMPLE OF DUTIES
The essential functions listed below are those that represent the majority of the time spent working in this class. Management may assign additional functions related to the type of work of the class as necessary.Serves as a first point of contact to victims of domestic violence who experience trauma and provides education on the complexities of the criminal justice process.Provides a continuum of victim support from crisis through investigation and judicial processes within a law enforcement environment.Provides emotional, physical, and financial support to victims of crime.Provides access to the criminal justice system and support agencies.Maintains contact and communication with victims and witnesses during the investigation, prosecution, and judicial proceedings.Maintains case files with documented case notes and services.Responsible for managing client flow (timely customer service, client support, and de-escalation as needed), and directing victims and witnesses to the appropriate staff or agency.Performs general administrative duties as requested in various capacities, including administrative projects and operations from the victim services professionals within the Victim Services Unit.Completes any school related projects related to the internship. Performs related work as assigned.
