The Molecular Virology and Microbiology group at Baylor College of Medicine offers a hands-on internship designed for motivated students with an interest in biomedical and laboratory research. This internship provides practical exposure to core principles of virology, bacteriology, and molecular biology within an active academic research environment. Interns will receive structured training in fundamental laboratory techniques, including culturing bacteria and viruses, basic cell culture methods, and proper handling, aliquoting, storage, and cataloging of biological samples. Under the mentorship of experienced faculty, interns will learn best practices in laboratory research conduct and gain insight into translational research that bridges basic science and real-world medical applications.
Throughout the internship, participants will actively engage in laboratory experiments, attend and contribute to lab meetings, and present their work in group settings. Educational objectives focus on building foundational laboratory skills, understanding experimental design and research workflows, and fostering early exposure to scientific collaboration and communication.
