Intern/Aide - Pathology

Summary

The Intern will participate in a structured, full-time research training experience within the laboratory of Mingxing Teng, Assistant Professor, at the Jan and Dan Duncan Neurological Research Institute. This internship provides hands-on exposure to organic synthesis and chemical probe development, supporting ongoing research activities while strengthening the intern’s technical, analytical, and scientific communication skills. The role is designed for undergraduate students pursuing chemistry-related disciplines who are interested in gaining practical laboratory experience in an academic research environment.

Job Purpose

Provides temporary administrative or laboratory support to a department while gaining practical work experience.

Job Duties

• Execute common organic chemical reactions to support the synthesis of chemical probes
• Utilize standard laboratory equipment and instrumentation for experimental work
• Perform chemical structure characterization using analytical techniques
• Collect, analyze, and interpret experimental data using specialized chemistry software
• Maintain accurate laboratory records and documentation
• Collaborate with laboratory members through routine daily interactions
• Present research progress and findings during formal group meetings
• Follow established laboratory safety protocols and research guidelines
• May assists with special projects/programs.

Minimum Qualifications

• Must be enrolled in high school, trade/vocational school or higher education institution.

Preferred Qualifications

• Currently pursuing an undergraduate degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Biochemistry, or a related scientific field
• Interest in organic synthesis and chemical probe development
• Familiarity with standard laboratory techniques and instrumentation
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
• Ability to communicate scientific concepts effectively in both written and verbal formats
• Willingness to collaborate in a team-based research environment
