Summer 2026 Internship: Legal

What to Expect:

We are hiring an intern to join our Legal Department. As a Legal Department intern, you will receive on-the-job training and rotate between various members of the Legal Department, which includes attorneys with responsibility for general corporate law, real estate, mergers and acquisitions, commercial transactions, employment law, litigation, and compliance. Among other things, you will draft legal documents, perform legal research, attend department meetings, participate in calls with outside counsel, and observe how a corporate legal department selects, utilizes, and manages outside counsel. You will also spend time daily working on a summer project that you will present to the Legal Department and interns working in other departments at the end of the internship.

Your assignment will be located in Birmingham, Alabama, at Vulcan’s corporate headquarters.

What You’ll Do:

  • Rotate between members of the Legal Department to learn about the roles of each of our 10-member team.

  • Assist with customizing legal forms, including leases, purchase and sale agreements, access agreements, supply agreements, and various other land-related instruments.
  • Assist with drafting custom legal documents.
  • Assist with the creation of presentations.
  • Assist with the creation of compliance training materials.
  • Participate in internal Vulcan Legal Department meetings.
  • Participate in meetings with outside counsel.

  • Spend time daily working on the summer project, which is presented to the Legal Department and interns working in other departments at the end of the internship.


Skills You'll Need:

Education. Enrolled in good standing in an accredited law school pursuing a juris doctorate. Students who have completed their first or second year will be considered.

Skills. Requires sound thought and judgment in maintaining confidentiality and assisting Vulcan’s attorneys with providing legal advice to internal clients. Must have excellent writing skills, interpersonal skills, and the ability to work closely with executives and hourly employees alike. Must demonstrate a high level of professionalism and executive presence.

Technology Skills. Proficient computer skills and experience using Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and GSuite (Google Mail, Docs, etc.).

Work Environment. Work environment will be an office setting and may require sitting/standing for extended periods of time.
