Legal Services Intern - Spring 2026

OVERVIEW:

The Children’s Museum of Indianapolis seeks a highly motivated Legal Services Intern. The Legal Intern will work closely with the General Counsel on a variety of projects related to museum legal matters. This role provides exposure to real-world legal work in a nonprofit environment and offers practical experience in drafting and reviewing documents, conducting research, and supporting organizational compliance needs.

POTENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Draft and review legal documents, including contracts and transaction documents.
  • Perform citation checks, proofread others’ work, and assist with updating legal form documents.
  • Conduct legal research; gather and analyze statutes, court decisions, and legal articles; and apply findings to issues including intellectual property and employment.
  • Organize and maintain files and assist with updating the contract review database.
  • Assist in preparing PowerPoint presentations on legal topics.
  • Compose correspondence and reports for internal staff and assist with mailings to external parties.
  • Liaise with various museum departments to collect contracts, information, and data.
  • Provide occasional administrative support to the General Counsel, including scanning and filing.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Jr or above standing and actively pursuing a Bachelor’s degree (relevant fields include but are not limited to: Legal Studies, Political Science, History, Business, English, etc.).
  • Be available to work at least 15 hours per week.
  • Demonstrate proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel.
  • Have excellent writing skills and provide a writing sample as part of your application.
  • Interact with visitors and co-workers in a supportive, positive, and friendly manner.
  • Maintain behavior patterns acceptable to co-workers and the general museum culture.
