This position will join the CVA Region Team within Southern Timberlands and report to the Inventory Manager. This is a Full Time Salaried, Exempt position with salaried benefits package, located at our Timberlands office in New Bern, NC; however, consideration will be given to the Summerville, SC office for internal candidates. Some overnight travel will be required for off-site meetings and field work (less than 20%).
This role works within the CVA Planning and Inventory Team. This team is responsible for harvest planning, forest inventory, forest data management, and GIS and mapping on timberlands in North Carolina, South Carolina, and Virginia. The successful candidate will be a key member of this team and assist in managing the forest inventory program, overseeing the data quality in the Forest Management System (FMS) and provide mapping services to the CVA Region. The ideal candidate will be familiar with forest measurement techniques and cruising/sampling, harvesting and silvicultural practices, GIS (ArcGIS Pro and WebGIS preferred), mobile technologies, and management of contractors.
Key Functions:
Serve as the primary liaison with operational foresters to ensure inventory data completeness and accuracy.
Maintain and enhance the quality and integrity of forest inventory data within the Forest Management System (FMS).
Provide training and mentorship to foresters on effective use of FMS tools and processes.
Manage updates to FMS inventory related to acquisitions, divestitures, and post-harvest activities
Deliver accurate spatial (GIS) and tabular data services, ensuring high spatial integrity in FMS.
Design, implement, and audit timber cruises to support reliable standing volume estimates and assist in annual harvest planning.
A Bachelor's degree in forestry or a related field, or equivalent experience
Preferred: A degree coupled with 2+ years of relevant experience
Strong understanding of forest inventory systems and intensive loblolly pine plantation silviculture practices
Proficiency in forest mensuration, biometrics, and statistical analysis.
Solid computer skills, including Microsoft Office, GIS programs (ArcGIS Pro, FMS), and mobile technologies (Field maps, Survey123, Avenza)
Excellent communication, project management, and multitasking abilities.
Prior Drone/UAV experience is preferred.
What We Offer:
Compensation: This role is eligible for our annual merit-increase program, and we are targeting a salary range of $49,379-$86,941 based on your level of skills, qualifications and experience. You will also be eligible for our Annual Incentive Program, which offers a cash bonus targeting 5% of base pay. Potential plan funding may range from zero to two times that target.

Paid Time Off or Vacation: We provide eligible employees who are scheduled to work 25 hours or more per week with 3-weeks of paid vacation to use during your first year of employment. In addition, after being employed for six months, eligible employees begin to accrue vacation for future use. We also recognize eleven paid holidays per year, providing a total of 88 holiday hours and paid parental leave for all full-time employees.
