Inventory Manager – Job Description

Position Overview
The Inventory Manager is responsible for overseeing all aspects of cannabis inventory
management within a licensed dispensary under the Ohio Division of Cannabis Control
(DCC). This role ensures that all product movement—from receipt to sale—is accurately
tracked, documented, and compliant with state regulations, company policies, and Metrc
requirements. The Inventory Manager leads the inventory team, ensures operational
efficiency, and safeguards the integrity of all cannabis products throughout the supply
chain.
Key Responsibilities
Inventory Control & Compliance
- Oversee all inventory operations, including receiving, intake, storage, fulfillment, and
product destruction.
- Verify all incoming shipments for accuracy, quality, and compliance with DCC and
company standards.
- Ensure all inventory adjustments, transfers, and reconciliations are accurately recorded in
Metrc and the POS system.
- Maintain real-time inventory accuracy and ensure product labeling, storage, and
packaging meet regulatory requirements.
- Conduct and review daily, weekly, and monthly inventory audits to identify and resolve
discrepancies.
- Serve as the primary point of contact for inventory-related inspections, audits, and
compliance inquiries.
Team Leadership & Training
- Supervise, train, and evaluate Inventory Specialists and other inventory staff.
- Develop and maintain standard operating procedures (SOPs) for all inventory functions.
- Provide ongoing coaching to ensure staff adherence to compliance, accuracy, and
efficiency standards.
- Collaborate with management to create training programs for cross-departmental
inventory awareness.
Data Integrity & Reporting
- Generate and analyze inventory reports, variance summaries, and trend insights for
management review.
- Ensure all documentation—including manifests, intake logs, discrepancy reports, and
destruction records—is accurate and audit-ready.
- Review Metrc data for accuracy and completeness, ensuring full traceability from vendor
to point of sale.
- Report and document all discrepancies, product recalls, or compliance issues immediately
to the General Manager and DCC when applicable.
Operational Efficiency & Retail Support
- Coordinate product flow between vault, fulfillment, and sales floor to ensure consistent
stock levels and presentation.
- Implement inventory optimization strategies to minimize shrinkage and maximize
turnover.
- Work closely with the General Manager to plan inventory for promotions, high-volume
days, and new product launches.
- Partner with the compliance and security teams to ensure all inventory processes meet
state and internal security standards.
Safety, Security & Compliance Execution
- Ensure secure handling of all products within restricted and surveillance-covered areas.
- Maintain compliance with DCC safety, sanitation, and waste disposal standards.
- Participate in security audits and coordinate with IT or maintenance staff on surveillance
integrity and access control.
Qualifications
- Must be 21 years of age or older.
- High school diploma or GED required; associate or bachelor’s degree preferred.
- Minimum 2–3 years of inventory, supply chain, or logistics management experience
(cannabis industry preferred).
- In-depth knowledge of Metrc or equivalent seed-to-sale tracking software.
- Strong leadership, organizational, and communication skills.
- Proficiency in POS systems, Microsoft Excel, and inventory management software.
- Ability to analyze data, identify trends, and make informed operational decisions.
- Must pass a background check and fingerprinting per DCC requirements.
Working Conditions
- May be required to work evenings, weekends, and holidays.
- Must be able to stand or walk for extended periods and lift up to 30 lbs regularly.
- Work performed in secure and controlled environments with exposure to cannabis
products and odors.
