Investigative Assistant

Summary

This position is located in the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), Dallas Division.

This position(s) primary purpose is designed to perform a variety of technical law enforcement support work relative to the cases being investigated by the Criminal Investigators or Diversion Investigators.

As a Investigative Assistant, your typical work assignments may include:

  • Performing database queries in law enforcement, compliance, and/or inspection computer systems such as Narcotics and Dangerous Drug Information System Database, Controlled Substances Act Database, and Chemical Handlers Enforcement Management Systems (CHEMS);
  • Researching, assembling, compiling and tabulating information and figures, as may be necessary to use in investigations, seizures, and as evidence in various cases;
  • Gathering, acquiring, and developing resource materials and other information to support the law enforcement, compliance, and/or inspection program mission of an organization;
  • Providing information to staff, compiling reports on research conducted, and maintaining administrative records, and making recommendations on how to address data anomalies;
  • Utilizing spreadsheets, database, word processing software, desktop publishing, graphics applications and various computer equipment.

Applicants must meet all of the required qualification requirements described below by the closing of this announcement.

Applicants applying for the GS-06 level must meet one of the following requirements:

Have at least one full year of qualifying experience that is at least equivalent to work performed at the GS-05 grade level.

Qualifying experience must demonstrate the following:You must possess one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-05 Federal grade level performing the following duties: producing routine reports summarizing program information; searching a variety of sources to obtain materials to support program activities; and using law enforcement computer systems to generate and record unique identifiers.

Applicants applying for the GS-07 level must meet one of the following requirements: Have at least one full year of qualifying specialized experience that is at least equivalent work performed at the GS-06 grade level.

Qualifying experience must demonstrate the following: You must possess one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-06 Federal grade level performing the following duties: conducting complex law enforcement searches and queries; gathering data, preparing reports, and making recommendations, and identifying inaccuracies in the information gathered.

Specialized experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
