The Office of the Commonwealth's Attorney in Loudoun County is accepting applications from qualified applicants for their open Investigator position.
Under the general direction of the designated supervisor, this position conducts investigations for the Office of the Commonwealth's Attorney (OCA). This position assists attorneys to prepare for trials by conducting or following up on investigations and collaborating with law enforcement agencies to create or enhance efficiencies. Interviews victims and witnesses; compiles reports; strategizes with prosecutors and law enforcement agencies; assesses and reviews evidence; creates diagrams and charts; serves and/or coordinates subpoena service and court appearance of those subpoenaed; and engages in community outreach. Investigates cases assigned by supervisor, either independently or as part of a team. (Conducts complex investigations in accordance with federal, state, and County statutes, and professional investigative standards; informs OCA officials of all investigative activities and results.) Collaborates with OCA attorneys - evaluates and assists in the preparation and presentation of cases for court. Documents review, assesses information, and prepares investigative reports. (Prepares investigation reports that include a thorough and concise presentation of background, investigative activities, analyses, and conclusions.) Serves subpoenas; locates and interviews victims and witnesses. May perform other essential job functions specific to the position and department assignment.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
A combination of education and experience equivalent to an associate degree in a related field and four (4) years of related work experience preferably in law enforcement involving criminal investigation.
Successful candidates will undergo background checks as required.
