WHAT YOU WILL DO:
The Investigator III performs complex (journey-level) investigative work. Works under general supervision, with moderate latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment.


YOU WILL BE TRUSTED TO:
  • Evaluate, process, and monitor incoming possible cases for selection and progress through the prosecution track. Downgrades cases not well suited for prosecution and potentially creates a civil assessment in lieu of prosecution.
  • Prepare and issues Notices of Potential Prosecution (10-day letters) to claimants.
  • Process and responds to paper/electronic correspondence and phone calls from claimants about the status of their case, appeal rights, and repayment obligations.
  • Analyze unemployment prosecutions cases for theft from the unemployment trust fund, including the amount of theft. Prepares a summary of this information as well as other documentation for the Profit Analysis and Identity Investigation Report to be used as part of the criminal prosecution referral.
  • Prepare and send subpoenas to obtain wage and identity information. Handles follow up correspondence for subpoenas including bank payment requests.
  • Contact and interview potential defendants, witnesses, and others. Uses TWC resources to help identify and locate these parties as part of the investigation.
  • Testify before criminal grand juries and at trial, as necessary.
  • Log restitution checks from District Attorneys and Probation Departments and refers them to TWC’s Revenue & Trust Management for processing.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

YOU QUALIFY WITH:
  • One year and six months of full-time experience performing auditing or investigating work; or unemployment insurance claims examiner tasks; or gathering of information, interviewing, counseling or in the instruction, demonstration, and interpretation of policies in a public or private enterprise.
  • Relevant academic credits may be applied toward experience qualifications for this position.

Duty involves up to 20% travel within the state of Texas.
