Investment Banking Managing Director

We are seeking an accomplished and experienced Managing Director of Investment Banking to lead our Investment Banking practice. The MD will have overall accountability for the financial performance of Investment Banking or Capital Markets mandates within a defined sector. This role is primarily responsible for winning M&A, capital markets, and restructuring deals — generating most of the firm's investment banking revenue.

Key Responsibilities

Revenue Generation & Business Development

  • Win deals and generate revenue — The primary goal of an MD is to "make it rain" by winning the majority of M&A, capital markets, and restructuring deals
  • Actively pursue business development opportunities and originate new client engagements within selected industry sector(s)
  • Develop prospect and referral networks; support firm efforts in developing and executing business development and marketing strategies
  • Generate powerful proposals and make convincing presentations to achieve new business
  • Pitch companies and compete against other banks to win deals in "bake-offs" or "beauty pageants"
  • Targets opportunities for business growth

Client Relationship Management

  • Lead the strategic dialogue with clients and serve as primary point of contact for external and internal clients
  • Meet with existing clients to subtly convince them to do deals or update them on overall market activity
  • Meet with new companies that might become clients in the future, listening to their concerns and answering questions
  • Meet with private equity and venture capital firms to discuss portfolio companies and which ones might need to sell, go public, or raise capital
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with corporates, private equity firms, institutional investors, and industry partners
  • Manage day-to-day aspects of client relationships and serve as primary client contact on engagements

Deal Execution & Transaction Leadership

  • Lead origination and execution of M&A transactions across diverse sectors
  • Lead deal teams on a variety of transactions from initial opportunity development and client pitch to transaction execution and closing
  • Oversee deal teams through all phases of the transaction lifecycle
  • Lead execution of all deliverable workflows necessary to consummate transactions for middle market companies undergoing growth, transformation, and transition
  • Review and analyze client financial statements and projections, financial modeling, accounting, due diligence on balance sheet and P&Ls
  • Create and present client deliverables (pitch books, financial models, transaction documents)
  • Negotiate, document, and assist in transaction execution
  • Sometimes get involved in deal marketing and negotiations, especially for high-profile clients requiring special finesse
  • Structures, originates and executes transactions while working with balance sheet lender personnel and various Credit, Risk, and Operations teams

Team Leadership & Management

  • Guide analysts, associates, and vice presidents — leads all aspects of the Investment Banking line of business
  • Provide leadership, professional development, and mentoring for junior staff
  • Build a cohesive, diverse team dedicated to ongoing improvement of business operations
  • Manage day-to-day aspects of investment banking teams
  • Lead internal trainings and best practice sharing
  • Support talent acquisition and firm-building initiatives
  • Meet with VPs and SVPs to discuss deals, potential deals, and internal matters such as recruiting

Strategic Planning

  • Prepare short- and long-range strategic plans, priorities, objectives, and the annual budget
  • Develop and execute strategic plans to achieve business growth and revenue targets
  • Contribute to the firm's leadership vision and drive strategic growth initiatives
  • Analyzes financial performance for investment banking activity and targets opportunities for business growth

Industry Expertise & Thought Leadership

  • Maintain deep knowledge and expertise across industry sector(s)
  • Represent the firm at industry events and conferences
  • Develop and maintain a broad referral network from which to generate new business
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and industry standards

Qualifications & Requirements

Experience:

  • 12+ years of Investment Banking experience with a strong focus on M&A
  • Proven track record in originating and closing high-value deals
  • Demonstrated success in winning most of M&A, capital markets, and restructuring deals
  • Background leading complex engagements and middle market transactions

Relationships & Network:

  • Extensive network of corporate and sponsor relationships (PE firms, entrepreneurs, lenders, lawyers, C-suite executives, boards)
  • Strong marketing and relationship skills
  • Proven ability to win deals in competitive "bake-offs"

Skills & Competencies:

  • Exceptional leadership, negotiation, and communication skills
  • Strong financial analysis, deal structuring, and market trend expertise
  • Expertise in financial modeling, pitch books, and transaction documents
  • Business development and client delivery leadership
  • Ability to work on a routine basis coordinating initiatives across lending segments and senior/executive management

Education:

  • Bachelor's degree in Finance, Economics, Business, or related field (required)
  • MBA or advanced degree preferred

  • Market share growth in target sectors

Pay: QAR180.00 - QAR550.00 per hour
