Job Description and Duties

Our Investment Controls and Operational Risk (ICOR) group is seeking to fill several Investment Officer positions at the II or III level to be responsible for a broad base of operational, policy, and regulatory issues and drive our CalPERS mission.
Duties include, but are not limited to:
- Perform analysis and research to support and enhance the operational risk program, including process and systems oversight.
- Assist in the identification, assessment, measurement, monitoring, and reporting of operational risks across the Investment Office.
- Support the design, development, and governance of investment policies and procedures for investment strategies and programs, ensuring compliance with laws, regulatory requirements, and investment objectives.
- Assess and approve trades to ensure adherence to pre-trade compliance controls in an Order Management System, such as regulatory requirements, restricted lists, and guidelines.

Effective July 1, 2025, the California Department of Human Resources (CalHR) implemented the Personal Leave Program 2025 (PLP 2025). PLP 2025 directs that each employee shall receive a 3 percent reduction in pay in exchange for 5 hours of PLP 2025 leave credits, monthly. The salary range(s) included in the job advertisement do not reflect the 3 percent reduction in pay.
Position Details
This position is eligible for an annual incentive award and Charter Financial Analyst (CFA) pay differential. The annual incentive opportunity is 0-20% of salary and is based on the level of achievement against several quantitative and qualitative measures. Permanent full-time employees who possess certification as a CFA may receive a 5% monthly base pay differential.

Desirable Qualifications
- Experience with investment compliance monitoring and/or operational risk management.
- Experience writing and interpreting investment policies and procedures.
- Experience with front office and operational processes.
- Experience investigating compliance breaches or operational incidents.
- Experience with order management systems (e.g., Charles River, Aladdin)
