Job Summary:
Irrigation Pump Mechanic will maintain agricultural production and quality by ensuring year-round operation of irrigation equipment, pumps, farm machinery, and participates in seasonal farming operations. Will service, repair, & replace industrial pumps, motors, and related equipment used for irrigation pump stations & filter systems. Must be self-motivated, possess good communication.
Essential Functions:
Ensure operation of machinery and mechanical equipment by completing preventive maintenance, irrigation systems above and below ground, tractors, engines, motors, pneumatic tools; following diagrams, sketches, operations manuals, manufacturer’s instructions, and engineering specification; troubleshooting malfunctions.
- Inspect, diagnose and perform major and minor repair work on motors, pumps, hydraulic equipment, compressors, controls, valves and related equipment.
- Locates sources of problems by observing mechanical devices in operation; listening for problems, using precision measuring and testing instruments
- Removes defective parts by dismantling devices, using hoists, cranes, and hand and power tools examining form and texture of parts.
- Adjust functional parts of devices and control instruments by using hand, electric, and air-driven tools, levels, and straightedges.
- Informs Equipment Manager of routine preventive maintenance techniques; monitoring compliance.
- Fabricate, and modify repair parts by using machine shop instrumentation and equipment.
- Maintains equipment parts, and supplies inventories by checking stock to determine inventory level, anticipating needed equipment, parts, and supplies; communicating the needs to the Equipment Manager.
- Provides mechanical maintenance information by answering questions and requests.
- Maintains continuity among work teams by documenting and communicating actions, irregularities, and continuing needs.
- Maintains safe and clean working environment by complying with procedures, rules, and regulations.
- Maintains all maintenance logs on assigned work orders. Sees that company tools and equipment are maintained properly. Ensures timely and proper completion of work orders.
- Ability to comply with and train employees on proper Lockout Tag out procedures on the equipment and notify appropriate personnel.
- Promotes and exhibits strong safety practices.
- Be available, especially during harvest, for after-hours duties to include maintaining harvest equipment.
- Able to drive and operate farm equipment such as tractor as needed.
- Perform miscellaneous duties as needed such as assist in repair of equipment.
- Follows company policies and safety practices when performing job duties.
- Able to read and interpret specifications, repair manuals, wiring diagrams.
- Able to diagnose malfunctions in farm machinery and equipment.
- Communicates well with vendors and coworkers in a professional manner.
- Maintain paperwork documentation of work performed in a complete and timely manner on a daily basis

Knowledge, Skill and Experience:
- Valid CA Driver’s License with good driving record
- Completion of technical school or 1 year relevant mechanical experience with irrigation pumps required.
- Ability to write, basic math
Experience:
- Irrigation Pumps, Agricultural Mechanic.
- Electrical and Welding Experience preferred.

- Communicate Effectively: Excellent interpersonal communication skills both written and verbal. Able to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, verbal, diagram or schedule form.
- Bilingual English/Spanish is a plus, but not a requirement.
- Agricultural Knowledge: Working knowledge of irrigation systems above and below ground and agricultural equipment operation and maintenance.
- Ability to operate (or learn to operate) necessary equipment.
- Mechanical Skills: Requires skills in welding, electrical, troubleshooting, and maintenance & repair of irrigation and agricultural equipment. Prior experience working on pumps, and other irrigation equipment, pipe installations and repair and experience with farm machinery and tractors.
- Ability to work flexible schedule including overtime when required, and nights, holidays, weekends, and long hours.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to push, pull, carry, and lift up to a minimum of 50 lbs, and the ability to climb ladders
- Ability to sit extensively, reach, bend, twist, stoop, squat, crouch, and work in cold and wet conditions
- Ability to sit, stand, bend, and walk, for long periods of time.
- Manual dexterity sufficient to reach, grasp, hold, handle items, and work with fingers, wrists, elbows, and shoulders
- Clear vision (close and distant), peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to focus
- Hearing adequate for working safely around machinery, vehicles, and other equipment and crews
- Ability to use Respiratory Mask-requires a Pass on Respiratory Physical-Questionnaire/Spirometry/Mask Fitting
Work Environment:
- Outdoors exposed to changing weather conditions, such as cold, fog, rain, heat, dust, wind, sun, etc.
- Moderate to high noise levels typical of farm equipment and tools.
