JOB DESCRIPTION
Overview:
The LIS Administrative Assistant is responsible for the maintenance of laboratory information systems and
procedures, in support of the LIS Administrator. The LIS Administrative Assistant is familiar with all aspects
of Orchard LIS and associated interfaces. The LIS Administrative Assistant is also familiar with general IT
functions including, but not limited to, printers, monitors, and VOIP phone systems.
Outcome-Based Responsibilities (Deliverables):
Management of day to day operations of the LIS
Schedules and performs maintenance as required for operational efficiency
- Updates the test menu, including new tests, changes in test details, normal values, reference ranges, LOINC codes, CPT codes, etc
- Assists with system implementations and upgrades
- Assists with testing software releases and upgrades prior to implementation to fully
- identify and resolve problems before going live
Functions as secondary contact for all LIS-related issues and supports end user
- Assists with setup, maintenance, and auditing of user, location, and practice accounts
- Troubleshoots errors/issues with the LIS reported by end users
- Creates custom reporting browsers
Ensure IT processes are functioning correctly and providers receive results electronically in a
timely manner
- Reviews LIS interfacing and monitors system status, system errors, system messages, printing scheduled reports, collection lists, labels, person merges, pending's, updates, and modifications
- Monitors systems including match results and fix orders queues, report queues, purge log, and error log
- Troubleshoots hardware/software issues between analyzers and LIS
Scope:
- Promotes quality relations and creates a supportive climate by serving as a role model. Respects and maintains the confidentiality of information relative to the laboratory. Adheres to and enforces prescribed laboratory safety policies and regulations.
- Works independently with minimal direction. Functions as a liaison between the laboratory and the laboratory customers.
- Operates general laboratory equipment, including but not limited to: telephones, computer keyboards and CRT. Effectively communicates via written, verbal, face-to-face, telephone, and computer methods.
Education and Experience:
- 1+ years of lab experience
- 1+ years of IT experience
- Experience with Orchard LIS, NextGen EMR, and/or Athena EMR preferred
Skills:
- Ability to communicate effectively with both end users and system developers
- Knowledge of LIS software, including, Orchard, Machine integration, and associated software
- Knowledge of HL7, Data/SQL analysis, and Orchard products
- Analytical and problem solving skills
- Personal organization and planning skills

Environmental Demands:
- Works in a temperature-controlled environment with constant exposure to biological and chemical hazards.
- May be required to operate fire and safety equipment or follow other safety procedures in an emergency situation.
- May be required to work with time constraints and in crisis situations.
- May be required, from time-to-time, to work Friday nights, Saturdays and Sundays
