Work Location & Commute Requirements
  • Onsite Expectation: This is a 100% onsite position located at Armstrong Flight Research Center (AFRC) on Edwards Air Force Base.
  • Commute & Relocation: Candidates must currently reside within a 45-minute drivable distance of Edwards, CA, or be willing to relocate to the immediate area at their own expense prior to their start date.

Overview
Altech Solutions is seeking an IT Field Technician to support NASA’s Armstrong Flight Research Center (AFRC) under the AEGIS contract. This role involves supporting LAN/WAN infrastructure, performing technical analyses of network hardware, and ensuring high-quality data transmission across the facility. The ideal candidate will bridge the gap between physical cable plant maintenance and logical network troubleshooting.

Key Responsibilities
  • Network Maintenance: Install, support, and maintain LANs/WANs, including the configuration of switches, routers, firewalls, and wireless access points.
  • Infrastructure Support: Install and remove CAT6 copper, fiber optic, and category cabling within network closets and data center environments.
  • Technical Analysis: Use diagnostic tools to perform technical analyses of software, hardware, and transmission facilities to support efficient operations.
  • Problem Resolution: Diagnose and resolve technical issues related to network integrity, VOIP, and PC hardware/software.
  • Data Management: Extract and compile engineering data from field notes and manuals, identifying inconsistencies and selecting appropriate presentation methods.
  • Operational Support: Monitor data traffic and control network resource performance to ensure high-quality transmission.


Qualifications
  • Education: AA/AS degree with 4 years of experience, or a High School diploma with 6 years of relevant experience.
  • Technical Experience: * 2+ years of relevant IT experience.
    • 1+ years of cable plant experience (Fiber, Copper, Category cabling).
    • 1+ years of experience troubleshooting complex routing and switching issues.
  • Skills: * Entry-level knowledge of network protocols (TCP/IP, VLAN, VPN).
    • Ability to interpret network drawings and specifications.
    • Proficiency in identifying telecom color codes.
    • Familiarity with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel).
  • Certifications: BICSI, CCNA, or other networking certifications are highly preferred.
  • Clearance: Ability to obtain and maintain a Public Trust.


Physical Requirements & Working Conditions
  • Physical Dexterity: Must be able to lift heavy objects up to 50 pounds.
  • Environment: Work is performed primarily in a data center and network closet environment.
  • Flexibility: Ability to work flexible hours, including weekends or late afternoons/evenings as required.
