IT Junior Programmer

Primary Function:

Responsible for supporting the daily operations of our core banking environment, contribute to secure middleware development, and play an active part in processing automation efforts across the organization. This position requires a high level of integrity, technical curiosity, and a commitment to producing reliable, audit-ready solutions.

Major Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Core System Integration:
    Develop, enhance, and maintain batch scripts and KeyScripts used within the Corelation KeyStone platform. Work closely with the Application Support Team to refine, troubleshoot, and optimize KeyScripts that drive essential banking processes.
  • Automation & I-S-E Tooling:
    Assist in creating automated workflows using I-S-E software to streamline and modernize batch processing. Collaborate with senior developers and system administrators to identify manual tasks that can be automated to increase efficiency and reduce operational risk.
  • Data & Reporting:
    Write, optimize, and validate DB2 SQL queries to produce accurate financial, regulatory, and operational reports supporting audit, compliance, accounting, and marketing teams.
  • Back-Office Workflow Improvement:
    Participate in requirements gathering and support the development of automation solutions that reduce manual workloads for business units.
  • Technical Support:
    Provide Tier 2 technical support for internal teams, diagnosing integration issues, script failures, data anomalies, and software malfunctions within critical systems.
  • Collaboration & Cross-Team Partnership:
    Work alongside core system analysts, application support staff, and middleware developers to ensure consistent, secure, and reliable system behavior.
  • Perform other duties as may be assigned by management.
  • Understand and describe the purpose of the Bank Secrecy Act (BSA), Anti Money Laundering, and Office of Foreign Asset Control policy (OFAC). Identify the BSA Administrator and responsibilities. Complete annual BSA training. Know where to find the BSA policies, procedures, and forms.
  • Responsible for understanding and complying with the iTHINK Financial Cybersecurity Phishing Standards and Guidelines for the safety and soundness of the Credit Union. Complete on-going training as assigned to stay current with new trends. Know where to find the Cybersecurity policies and procedures.

Job Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, Ability)

  • Working knowledge of organizations policies/procedures and credit union’s service philosophy.
  • Technical Proficiency:
    Experience with DB2 SQL, Java, and JavaScript. Familiarity with scripting techniques and batch automation tools is a plus.
  • Problem-Solving Skills:
    Ability to analyze and troubleshoot complex transactional logic within financial systems where accuracy and reliability are paramount.
  • Documentation Discipline:
    Strong commitment to maintaining comprehensive documentation to support audit trails, change management, and system compliance.
  • Attention to Detail:
    A meticulous approach to coding, testing, and validating solutions in high-stakes financial environments.
  • Ability to understand and follow complex written and verbal instructions.
  • Ability to comprehend complex functions and procedures and be able to disseminate that knowledge in a clear and understandable format to others.

  • Individual goals for productivity and accuracy are achieved.
  • Ensure the confidentiality and security of credit union and member information being processed.
  • Business continuity plan for area of responsibility in IT is prepared and ready.
  • Documentation is developed and maintained for all databases, reporting systems and device configurations, including procedures.
  • Development & implementation of goals, objectives, policies and priorities are performed.
  • Programs, upgrades, fixes and software releases are installed, tested and/or programmed.
  • All work performed conforms to Credit Union guidelines and standards.
  • Serve as backup to other IT representatives.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by management.

Education and Experience:

Job requires a four-year college level bachelor’s degree in computer science, Software Engineering, or a related field. Formal position training should be supplemented with continuing education. This is a non-exempt position.
