Responsibilities - What you’ll do

This is a senior-level project manager accountable for managing the most complex projects at an agency level. Responsible for project planning, overseeing activities of the project team, and identifying appropriate resources needed. Develop project plans, timelines, and accountabilities. Must be familiar with project scope and objectives as well as the role of each team member. Accountable for developing project deliverables and measuring project outcomes. Frequent interaction with both business owners and managers in other IT functions. Often manages lower-level project managers. May assist other directors or managers with strategic planning and direction.

Job Components:

  • Provide overall planning, coordination, and oversight of all activities for assigned projects.
  • Lead complex projects through the entire Systems Development Life Cycle (SDLC).
  • Exercise independence, and judgment, and take initiative in leading projects.
  • Embrace continuous improvement and maximize value while eliminating waste by using lean thinking.
  • Work effectively with agency staff, ITSD, and/or vendor business analysts and developers to complete projects on time and within budget.
  • Governance of assigned project budget.
  • Project status reporting.
  • Contract Management for vendor-engaged projects.
  • Assist the Directors and/or Managers with strategic planning and direction.
  • Serve as a resource and/or mentor to entry-level team members and less experienced staff.
Qualifications - All you need for success

Preferred Qualifications/Skills:

  • Bachelor’s degree and 10 or more years of relevant IT experience.
  • Knowledge of project management and business analysis methodologies and best practices.
  • Concepts, practices, and procedures within the SDLC.
    Excellent Communication, Leadership, Organization, Conflict Resolution, and Critical Thinking.
  • Planning and organizing projects, ensuring project deadlines are met.
  • Proven ability to independently manage projects from conception to implementation.
  • Informed and effective decision-making.
  • Exhibited ability to evaluate options for solutions, considering all risks and impacts.
  • Proven ability to collaborate with professional staff and stakeholders.
  • Proven ability to lead a team, provide direction, and take initiative.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, such as conflict resolution.
  • Proven ability in mentoring, coaching, and developing skills of team members or other professional staff.
  • Successful background check results are required for employment in this position. This may include background checks involving a candidate’s name and/or fingerprints and other screenings as needed for the specific position.

Contingent upon your position, you may also be eligible to receive:

  • A $2.00 per hour shift differential if you are assigned to a shift that begins on or between 12:00pm (noon) and 5:00am and are employed at a 24/7 congregate care facility (i.e. institution, transition center, supervision center, or command center).
  • A $0.75 per hour maximum security stipend if you work full-time at a qualifying facility.
  • A $1.00 per hour restrictive housing stipend if you are assigned a regular post within a restrict housing/segregation unit at any facility.

The Department of Corrections currently offers a guaranteed 1% pay increase for every two years of continuous service up to 20 years!
