IT Support Specialist

General

The IT Support Specialist is responsible for providing day-to-day technical assistance and support to City
employees and departments. This position focuses on diagnosing and resolving hardware, software, and
basic network issues, assisting with user requests, and ensuring reliable operation of end-user technology systems.

Supervision Received
The IT Support Specialist is responsible to and performs under the general supervision of the IT Director.

Expectation of Job Duties

Examples of Essential Duties
The following examples are meant to be illustrative only and are not intended to be all-inclusive:

  • Respond to helpdesk tickets, phone calls, and in-person requests for technical assistance.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve hardware, software, and peripheral issues for end-users.
  • Assist with installation, configuration, and maintenance of computers, printers, mobile devices, and other office technology.
  • Ensure that all hardware and software are up-to-date and compliant with security standards.
  • Assist in the maintenance and administration of the City’s computer networks.
  • Provide basic troubleshooting for network connectivity issues and escalate when needed.
  • Assist in maintaining IT asset inventory, ensuring equipment is tracked and updated.
  • Implement and enforce IT security policies and procedures.
  • Stay informed about cybersecurity threats and assist in implementing measures to protect City data.
  • Provide user training and guidance on common applications, systems, and best practices.
  • Document issues, solutions, and procedures for future reference.
  • Collaborate with other IT professionals and departments to implement new technologies and improve existing systems.
  • Assist with IT projects, deployments, and system improvements as assigned.

Job Requirements

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Strong understanding of computer hardware, operating systems, and common office software.
  • Solid troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
  • Familiarity with basic networking concepts and cybersecurity best practices.
  • Strong customer service skills and a team-oriented attitude.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Associates degree in IT.
  • Proven experience as an IT Support Specialist or in a similar role.
  • Valid Missouri Driver’s License required.

  • Any combination of education, training, and/or experience which would qualify for the position as decided by the IT Director and approved by the City Administrator.
