The IT Technician provides technical support for Newcastle Public Schools by installing, maintaining, and troubleshooting hardware, software, and network systems. This position assists staff, students, and administrators in resolving technology-related issues and ensures that district technology resources operate efficiently, securely, and effectively.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Provide first-line technical support for computers, printers, mobile devices, interactive displays, and other classroom/office technology.

Troubleshoot hardware, software, and network issues, escalating problems as needed.

Install, configure, and maintain computers, peripherals, operating systems, and applications.

Support district users with login, access, and account management.

Assist in maintaining network connectivity, wireless access, and related equipment.

Monitor and track technology requests through the district’s help desk system.

Assist with inventory, asset management, and equipment deployment.

Support technology integration for instructional staff and administrators.

Maintain security standards by assisting with software updates, patches, and virus protection.

Collaborate with the Director of Technology on system upgrades, projects, and long-term planning.

Provide on-site and remote support as necessary across multiple district buildings.

Maintain confidentiality of student and staff information in compliance with federal and state law.

Perform other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Working knowledge of Windows and/or macOS operating systems.

Basic understanding of networking concepts (LAN, WAN, Wi-Fi).

Familiarity with Google Workspace for Education and Microsoft Office applications.

Ability to diagnose and resolve common technical issues.

Strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.

Ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks.

Customer-service orientation with patience and professionalism.

Qualifications

High school diploma or equivalent required; associate’s or bachelor’s degree in Information Technology or related field preferred.

CompTIA A+, Network+, or equivalent certifications preferred.

Previous experience in IT support, preferably in an educational environment, is desirable.

Must be able to lift, move, and install technology equipment (up to 50 pounds).

Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation to travel between district sites.

Employment and Working Conditions

Work Calendar: 260 days (12 months)

Hours: As established by the Director of Technology

Environment: School sites, district offices, and technology work areas

Physical Requirements: Prolonged periods of computer use, occasional lifting, bending, or climbing to install or move equipment.
