Responsibilities:

Performs all of the groundskeeping duties including operation of all powered equipment, vehicles and tools; performs limited general maintenance, overhaul and repair of vehicular and other mechanical equipment.

SUPERVISION AND DIRECTION EXERCISED:None.MACHINES AND EQUIPMENT USED:Variety of hand and poser tools and equipment, e.g., mechanical bench tools, mechanics tools, welding machines, gas torches, gardening tools, automotive equipment such as pick-up trucks, dump trucks, hand and tractor type lawn mowers, cultivators, tractors, front-end loaders, snow blowers, snow plows, back-hoe, street sweepers, power rollers, chain saws, roto-tillers, power rakes, paint stripers, etc. TYPICAL DUTIES:1.Inspects and maintains all grounds equipment, vehicular and other equipment. Makes mechanical adjustments, repairs and does some overhauling: sharpens cutters and mowers; replaces parts; tunes engines; may install or adapt auxiliary equipment. Reports need for major or complex mechanical repairs or for engine overhaul or parts fabrication, which must be performed by machinist or outside contract. Keeps maintenance records on all grounds equipment maintained. (On year-round basis, duties listed in item #1 may occupy as much as one-half of the work time of a full time incumbent.)2.Plants, transplants, removes and cares for grass, trees and shrubs according to landscaping plans.3.Repairs walks, on-property roadways and parking areas. 4.Performs all necessary clean up work including sweeping on walks, roadways, athletic fields, stadiums and grounds including removal of leaves, trash and the like.5.Does snow shoveling, snow plowing and removal; sets snow fence. 6.Operates all equipment in performance of above duties.7.Maintains athletic fields and facilities both inside and outside including setting up bleachers, goal posts, etc. 8.Performs other duties as assigned requiring comparable skills, including unplugging and cleaning of drains.QUALIFICATIONS:Requires the ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions and a valid motor vehicle operator's license. Requires the mechanical aptitude and demonstrated ability to operate safely and in a trouble-free workman-like fashion all groundskeeping equipment and to perform limited maintenance, overhauling and repair work on groundskeeping equipment and machines as described above. 1 year of successful practical experience in the maintenance and repair of automotive, construction and farm equipment. Physical ability to perform heavy sustained manual labor and continuous exposure to local weather and storms. Willingness to work long, irregular hours when assigned. Must have working telephone so he/she can be reached at irregular hours for call-in duty. Required to use, wear or otherwise utilize safety equipment specified or provided by the University in the manner prescribed. Required to observe and follow safe work practices at all times as specified by OSHA or other regulations
