Overview:
There is a pending vacancy for an experienced attorney in the Sex Crimes/Child Abuse Unit. This position handles the cases involving the civil commitment of Sexually Violent Predators (“Jimmy Ryce” cases) and also does the intake work to make filing decisions for child abuse and neglect cases. ASA works closely with law enforcement and victim advocates. ASA is also second chair and coverage ASA for the Sex Crimes Unit cases.
Requirements:
A minimum of 3 years of criminal law experience is required.
Proficient computer skills are essential, including working knowledge of Microsoft Outlook, Excel, and Word. This position requires ability to use various software tools in the review of evidence. Attorney will need to be able to handle civil commitment of SVP cases from initial review, filing petitions, pretrial pleadings, communication with victims and expert witnesses, jury commitment trial, annual review hearings, and bench trials regarding release. Attorney will need to apply relevant statutes and case law to the review of the child abuse and neglect cases.
Background in psychology is helpful but not required.
