Position Summary
The Journeyman – Welder/Pipefitter is responsible for assembling, fabricating, and installing piping systems for new and existing industrial construction projects. This role works under the direction of a Foreman but also assists in leading crews and managing daily tasks to ensure projects are completed safely, efficiently, and according to specifications. Journeymen are expected to act as mentors and trainers to apprentices, supporting workforce development while maintaining GEMCO’s high standards of quality and safety.
Primary Responsibilities and Duties

Assemble, install, and maintain piping systems for industrial applications, following blueprints, drawings, and project specifications.

Cut, thread, and prepare pipe using appropriate tools such as pipe cutters, cutting torches, and threading machines.

Perform welding and fitting tasks as required for project completion, ensuring adherence to industry codes and safety standards.

Lead and direct a crew of apprentices and helpers, providing guidance and hands-on training.

Collaborate with Foremen and project managers to track progress, meet deadlines, and resolve issues on job sites.

Inspect work for quality and accuracy, ensuring systems are aligned, functional, and compliant with regulations.

Maintain tools, equipment, and work areas in safe, clean, and organized condition.

Follow all company and job site safety rules, participating in safety meetings and required training.

Communicate effectively with team members, supervisors, and other trades to support efficient project execution.

Perform other related duties as assigned by supervisors or management.
