POSITION SUMMARY:
The Journeyman Plumber is responsible for performing skilled plumbing installation, maintenance, and repair work in commercial, industrial, and restaurant environments. This includes assembling, repairing, and maintaining water, gas, and sewer systems, as well as operating specialized plumbing equipment to inspect, diagnose, and resolve issues efficiently and safely.
This role involves a variety of hands-on tasks such as hydro-jetting, grease trap cleaning, backflow testing, and pipe installation and replacement. The Journeyman Plumber ensures all work complies with the International Plumbing Code (IPC), safety regulations, and company standards while maintaining a clean, organized, and professional work environment.
The position requires a strong mechanical aptitude, problem-solving ability, and customer service focus. The Journeyman Plumber frequently works independently or leads a small crew, communicates effectively with supervisors and customers, and is available for on-call and after-hours emergency services as needed.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

Installs, repairs, replaces and maintains water lines, air lines, gas lines, vacuum lines, sewer lines, acid drain lines, sump pumps, sewer ejectors, domestic water pumps, water heaters, piping, traps, valves, vents, washbowls, sinks, toilet fixtures, fittings, faucets, drains, drains tables, forgers, basins valves, plug valves, acid neutralizer, condensate drains, roof drains, water filters, drinking fountains, decorative fountains, expansion tanks, and associated underground utilities. All within a residential or commercial environment.

Possess working knowledge of the International Plumbing Code (IPC).

Cuts and threads pipes, brazes, soft solders copper pipe, and pro-press pipe.

Works off of ladders, scaffolding, and roof tops of buildings.

Repairs and maintains plumbing by replacing washer and seats in leaky faucets, repairs burst pipes, and opens clogged drains.

Uses augers and high-pressure hydro jetting equipment to unstop all types of sewers, building drains, main grease lines.

Inspects building, emergency eye washer and shower and repairs, replaces, and installs as required.

Inspects and repairs natural gas lines, gas meters and gas regulators and repairs, replaces and installs, as required.

Repairs sewer pipes and unstops clogged lines.

Maintains a clean and safe work environment. Ensuring company vehicles and equipment are properly serviced, clean, and in good working condition.

Inspects and repairs lift stations, grease interceptors, grit interceptors and oil water separators.

Assembles and installs valves and pipefittings. Repairs and maintains valves, faucets, water heaters, traps, sinks, washbowls, sewers, vents, and fixtures.

Bends pipe to required angle by use of pipe-bending machine and joins pipes by use of screws, bolts, fitting, solder, plastic solvent, pro-press, fusion weld, and caulks joints.

Connect and maintains hot water heater units, gas heater, and furnaces and checks for safe operation.

Fills pipe system with water or air and read pressure gauges to determine whether system is leaking.

Trouble shoot system for malfunction; analyzes, diagnoses, and resolves system problems.

Installs, repairs, and tests Backflow system components.

Effectively communicate with peers and upper management regarding solutions to problems with solid time increments.

Provides comprehensive review of construction plans and submittal data.

Survey building and perform maintenance on equipment, demonstrating effective teamwork and leadership skills.

Must be available on an “On-Call”, over time, and odd hours to support our customers.

Limited supervisory responsibilities as a foreman who leads a small crew of up to five individuals.
- Hydro-jetting (Line Maintenance) – Basic inlet and outlet line cleaning from the trap to addressing interior drains and lines (grease and sanitary).

Preventative maintenance and running lines to ensure there is no blockage.

Perform emergency services when overflow is reported, sometimes outside of working hours.

Drive company pick-up truck with jetter trailer.

Maintains telephone or radio contact with supervisor to receive work instructions.

Inspects jetting equipment to ensure that it is working properly.
-
Proactively diagnoses and resolves drain issues in a commercial setting.

Special projects and other duties as assigned.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
This position supervises Plumbing Apprentice employees who support operations for the company and is responsible for the performance management.
CERTIFICATIONS:

High school diploma or GED.
-
Minimum of 1+ year or relevant work experience.
-
Must possess a Valid Plumbing License with the Texas State Board of Plumbing.
- Must hold a valid backflow certification.
- Must possess a Valid Texas Driver's License.

Must possess the ability to operate a plumbing snake (roto-rooter).
-
Must possess the ability to operate basic hand tools necessary for the craft (not company provided).

Must have the ability and knowledge to operate a jetting machine.

Commercial and industrial service work preferred.
QUALIFICATIONS:

Must hold a valid Journeyman Plumber license.

Backflow certification required or ability to obtain within 30 days of hire.

OSSF (On-Site Sewage Facilities) certification required or ability to obtain within 30 days of hire; company will cover certification costs.

Strong knowledge of plumbing systems, installation, maintenance, and repair methods in commercial and industrial environments.

Ability to read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and plumbing diagrams.

Excellent problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and commitment to safety.

Valid driver’s license with acceptable driving record.

Minimum of 1 year of commercial driving experience, preferably operating roll-off trucks

Strong mechanical background and ability to operate a manual transmission

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Spends approximately 70% of time performing hands-on trade work, including the operation of various plumbing equipment and tools.

Spends approximately 30% of time diagnosing plumbing issues, driving, and performing waste removal services at multiple business and public outdoor sites.

All work locations are safety-sensitive and require the use of appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) at all times.

Requires extended periods of driving between service locations.

Requires frequent bending, stooping, climbing, stepping, and reaching during work activities.

Must be able to lift, carry, and move materials and equipment weighing up to 50 pounds regularly and up to 100 pounds occasionally.
