Jr Graphic Design and Print Associate

Sparrow Print N Ship is seeking an entry level print and design professional who can take print jobs from concept through final production. We are looking for someone who understands both design and print production and can work hands-on in a fast-paced environment.

This position is best suited for a self-taught designer or a recent graduate of a technical or trade program who wants real-world experience in a print shop.

Key Responsibilities

• Work directly with customers to turn ideas, rough files, or concepts into print-ready designs
• Create and modify designs for business cards, flyers, posters, banners, signage, and similar products
• Create designs for Social Media
• Review customer-supplied files and correct common issues such as sizing, bleed, color mode, resolution, and layout
• Prepare files for production and ensure they meet print specifications before printing
• Operate digital and large-format printers and perform quality control checks on finished work
• Recommend appropriate materials, finishes, and production options based on customer needs and budget
• Manage job intake, order tracking, invoicing, and customer transactions
• Assist with packaging and shipping using UPS, FedEx, and USPS systems as needed
• Maintain a clean, organized workspace and follow established production workflows

Required Skills (Non-Negotiable)

• Working knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite, specifically:
• Adobe Illustrator
• Adobe Photoshop
• Adobe Acrobat
• Ability to produce print-ready files, including proper bleed, crop marks, color modes, and resolution
• Ability to take a job from concept through final printed output with minimal supervision
• Strong attention to detail and ability to catch errors before printing
• Comfortable working in a fast-paced retail and production environment
• Clear communication skills and the ability to explain print and design decisions to customers

What Will Disqualify You

• Experience limited to Canva or template-based design tools only
• No hands-on experience preparing files specifically for print
• Inability to explain how you’ve taken a design from idea to finished product
• Expecting the role to be purely creative with no production or customer-facing responsibilities

Preferred Qualifications

• Self-taught designer or recent graduate of a technical college, trade school, or design program
• Prior experience in a print shop, sign shop, or similar production environment
• Familiarity with large-format printing or specialty print products
• Basic understanding of typography, layout, and branding principles
• Flexi experience good to have, not required.

Portfolio Requirement

Applicants must provide a portfolio or examples of their work.
This may include school projects, personal work, freelance projects, or completed print jobs. A formal website is not required, but examples of real work are expected.

Physical Requirements

• Ability to lift up to 50 lbs
• Ability to stand for extended periods and work hands-on with equipment

Compensation

• Pay range is disclosed, and will be based on skills and demonstrated ability
• On-the-job training provided for equipment and internal workflows
