HIRING HOURLY RANGE: $20.80 - $24.63
HIRING SALARY RANGE: $43,264 - $51,230 (Estimated Annual Salary)

Duties and Responsibilities

Duties and Responsibilities:

This position is responsible for the physical security of the designated areas of the Sheriff’s Office. This role will primarily be at the Charleston County Judicial Complex, 100 Broad Street, Charleston, SC 29401

Potential areas of assignment include, but are not limited to:

  • Judicial Complex
  • General Sessions
  • Family and Probate Courts
  • Law Enforcement Center, 3691 Leeds Ave., N. Charleston, SC 29405
Duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Escorts
  • Security Patrols
  • Report Writing
  • Answering calls for assistance
  • Manning the screening stations
  • Performing Main Control Room operations
Average work week: Monday through Friday 8 am – 5 pm with ability to work extended hours depending on the needs of the agency.

This position requires successfully passing the South Carolina Criminal Justice Academy's 10-day Limited Duty Training Program and obtaining firearms and taser certifications within the first year of employment.

Minimum Qualifications

A qualified applicant must:

  • be a Citizen of the United States over 21 years of age
  • possess a high school diploma (state issued) or GED;
  • possess a current valid SC driver’s license, or the ability to obtain a SC driver’s license
  • Honorably discharged from the military (if applicable).
  • Have no pending cases or criminal felony convictions (misdemeanors may require expungement).
  • No THC or Marijuana use within 365 days; some drugs are automatic disqualifiers.
  • No student loans in default status.

  • Police Officer Selection Test (POST)
  • Background investigation including a credit check
  • In-person panel interview
  • Polygraph examination
  • Psychological examination/evaluation
  • Two-Part pre-employment physical examination
