- Responsible for prompt, adequate and qualitative care of the patients coming to A & E department
- Responsible to provide a continuous, on site medical support service to meet the need of patient.
- Responsible for delegation of duties to duty doctor & nursing staff working in department.
- To encourage & organize proper patient care and ensure all staff are adhere to organizational policies & processes.
- To maintain A & E IP/OP register
- To guide duty doctor's and nursing staff in clinical aspects
- To attend any new patient immediately.
- Examine & take a proper history of the patient (If he is in a position to give it on his own) or from his relative
- Check any previous records, if available.
- Charts down all the details in the A & E assessment sheet.
- Instruct the nursing staff about the necessary orders to be carried out.
- Inform the respective consultants whenever necessary
- Attend rounds with the respective consultants when they come to see case in A & E department and to follow their orders ( medications, investigations ,etc.)
- Follow up with all the investigations to be taken and trace their results. Note down investigation results in the A & E assessment sheet.
- Document Verbal Orders correctly in A & E assessment sheet if given by consultants.
- In MLC cases – Fill up the MLC register ( takes sign/thumb impression of patient or attendants sign ) and police intimation after informing patient / attendants and follow MLC policy of the hospital
- Identify the BID cases and follow BID policy of the hospital
- Activate code blue if any medical emergency is encountered beyond one’s control.
- Identify the critical status of patient and shift him/her to critical care area in time
- Always contact primary consultant / HOD if found necessary at any point of time.
- Shift the patient to ward/ Critical care area/ OT as per admission status
- To assist/ perform procedures as per need
- In case of patient getting shifted to ICU/OT ,accompanies the patient and give handover to respective doctor
- Always discuss with HOD in case of any doubt
- If patient is not willing for clinical management then inform respective consultant and follow LAMA policy of the hospital.
- If patient has to be shifted to other hospital ( due to any reason) then discuss same with respective consultant and patient/attendants and follows hospital transfer out policy of the hospital
- Attend patient’s complaints and calm the patient if they are apprehensive. Inform the respective consultant if needed.
- To get the assessment sheet ,consultant order, pre operation order, treatment sheet dully filled by duty doctor
- Maintain MLC register.
- Investigating complaints, proper recording and recommendation for disciplinary action.
- Conduct training session/work assign by HOD
- To create a team of staff for the benefit and welfare patient and smooth functioning of the department.
- To attend camps according to the policy.
- To work as per Policies and procedures of organization.
- Use capital letters for medicines (Generic Names/ Salt) and always put sign, name, date and time with every entry you make.
- To take care about completeness of records
- To participate in quality improvement programs and training sessions
- To act accordingly as per communicated by hospital management team.
- Promote patient care by liaisoning with all departments.
- Participate in the in-service education program, inclusive of CPR, Health & Safety Training and Fire.
- Ensure medical competence by continual professional development and reading of current medical journals.
- Promote the centre by showing empathy and compassion to patients, their families and friends.
- Promote the centre by demonstrating a customer –focused approach at all times to patients, consultants and staff.
