Position Overview
The Junior Electrician supports the installation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of electrical systems and equipment within an Electric Resistance Welding (ERW) plant. The role involves assisting senior electricians and maintenance teams to ensure smooth equipment operation, maintaining accurate maintenance logs, and performing authorized sign-offs as per company procedures. Ideal for diploma graduates with hands-on experience in industrial or ERW plant environments.
Key Responsibilities
Electrical Maintenance & Troubleshooting
· Assist in performing routine electrical maintenance on ERW machines, motors, control panels, transformers, and related equipment.
· Help diagnose electrical issues such as faults, breakdowns, and irregular equipment behavior.
· Support preventive maintenance activities to reduce downtime and optimize machine performance.
· Replace or repair electrical components including switches, sensors, relays, contactors, and wiring.
ERW Plant Operations Support
· Provide technical assistance during ERW line startups, shutdowns, and changeovers.
· Monitor electrical parameters and ensure systems operate within required specifications.
· Assist in maintaining and calibrating ERW-related electrical instruments and controllers.
Documentation & Log Maintenance
· Maintain accurate records of all maintenance tasks, inspections, and repairs in the maintenance logbook or digital system.
· Ensure entries are completed clearly, regularly, and in compliance with audit requirements.
· Perform authorized sign-off on maintenance checklists, routine inspection forms, and service reports as per approval level.
· Update documentation related to electrical drawings, work orders, and equipment history.
Safety & Compliance
· Follow all electrical safety procedures, lockout/tagout processes, and PPE requirements.
· Comply with company safety policies, industry regulations, and ERW plant standards.
· Report hazards, unsafe conditions, or equipment issues to supervisors immediately.
Teamwork & Support
· Work closely with senior electricians, maintenance technicians, and production teams.
· Assist during emergency repairs and contribute to minimizing downtime.
· Participate in skill development programs, toolbox talks, and technical training.
Qualifications & Requirements
Education
· Diploma in Electrical Engineering or Industrial Electrical Technology (or equivalent).
Experience
· 1–3 years of experience as an electrician in an industrial environment;
· Hands-on experience in an ERW pipe or tube manufacturing plant is strongly preferred.
Technical Skills
· Basic knowledge of electrical systems, circuits, PLC-controlled machinery, and industrial equipment.
· Familiarity with ERW plant machinery and electrical safety protocols.
· Ability to read electrical drawings, schematics, and maintenance manuals.
· Basic understanding of instrumentation and control systems is an advantage.
Soft Skills
· Strong attention to detail, especially in maintaining logs and documentation.
· Good communication and teamwork abilities.
· Willingness to learn and adapt to plant requirements.
· Ability to work under supervision and follow instructions.
Work Environment
· Industrial/ERW plant environment with exposure to machinery, noise, and heat.
· PPE required at all times.
· May involve shift work, extended hours, or on-call duties during breakdowns.
