ROLE DESCRIPTION

Reporting to the Deputy of Human Resources, the Junior Human Resources Generalist will spend the majority of their time supporting recruiting and onboarding functions across the organization. This is an excellent opportunity for a motivated, early-career HR professional with a passion for recruitment and people operations in a mission-driven environment.

The Junior Generalist will also support general HR administrative and compliance functions. They will work closely with hiring managers, HR team members, and union staff to ensure a smooth and efficient hiring experience and contribute to broader HR operations.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Recruiting and Hiring

  • Assist in the recruitment and selection process to attract and retain strong talent across the union.
  • Support hiring managers in sourcing candidates, posting jobs, screening applicants, and scheduling interviews.
  • Maintain job postings on internal and external platforms and track applicant progress through HR systems.
  • Help implement strategies for building talent pipelines and increasing candidate diversity.

Onboarding and Orientation

  • Draft and send detailed offer letters and manage onboarding status and communication with new hires.
  • Maintain onboarding records and assist in scheduling and conducting orientation sessions.
  • Ensure new employees are welcomed and introduced to 32BJ’s culture, structure, and internal resources.
  • Help improve onboarding materials and processes to better serve new staff and department needs.

HR Systems and Administration

  • Support the maintenance and data entry of HR systems including Epicor, SharePoint and Airtable.
  • Assist with employment verifications, I-9 management, and weekly payroll processing.
  • Help ensure personnel files are up-to-date and compliant with organizational and legal requirements.
  • Contribute to the development of digital tools and process improvements related to HR operations.

Other Responsibilities May Include:

· Supporting group presentations or trainings for new staff.

· Supporting our Racial Justice Working Groups on various initiatives.

· Assisting in internal communication and employee engagement initiatives.

· Collaborating on special HR projects and audits as needed.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

· Professional experience in human resources, business administration, or a related field or a bachelors’ degree in the aforementioned fields or a related discipline.

· 2–4 years of experience in human resources, preferably with exposure to recruitment or onboarding.

· Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work collaboratively across teams.
Highly organized with the ability to handle multiple priorities and maintain attention to detail.

· Proficiency in MS Office (Excel, Outlook, Word, PowerPoint); experience with Airtable, Canva and/or HRIS systems is a plus.

· Commitment to workers’ rights and social justice is strongly preferred.

· Bilingual in English and Spanish is highly desirable.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

This position is computer/office based, with in-person and online meetings. Occasional evening or weekend work may be required to support organizational events or hiring needs. All staff are expected to participate in Union activities and events, which may occur on-site or at other locations.

COMPENSATION & BENEFITS

The salary range for this role is $55,000 to $65,000, depending on experience. 32BJ offers a generous benefits package that includes full employer-paid medical, dental and vision plan (for full-time employees and their qualified dependents) and retirement benefits, including a defined benefit pension plan and 401K. 32BJ offers paid time off including three weeks’ vacation, eleven holidays, twelve sick days and four personal days. The union currently offers a remote work policy of one remote day per week at the discretion of the manager.
