The Bergelson lab at NYU’s Department of Biology is looking for a highly motivated and independent individual to work as a Junior Laboratory Associate.

This position is for a trainee preparing for a research path. It will provide development of technical skills; supervision by senior scientists incorporating individual development plan in support of training goals and those of faculty mentor; and possible publication of research findings during appointment period.

Responsibilities may include culturing bacteria and plants, performing protoplast isolation, extracting plasmid DNA, cloning, transforming bacteria, conducting data analysis, ordering laboratory supplies and equipment, and maintaining general laboratory organization and upkeep. In addition, the trainee may be responsible for optimizing protocols for high-throughput experiments, quantifying experimental outcomes, and supporting the organizational activities required to carry out these studies.

Projects in the Bergelson lab center around the ecology and evolution of plant-pathogen interactions. One main line of research in the lab is understanding the mechanism shaping plant resistance gene evolution. For more information about our past and ongoing work, visit bergelsonlab.org.

In compliance with NYC’s Pay Transparency Act, the annual base salary range for this position is $55-60k New York University considers factors such as (but not limited to) the specific grant funding and the terms of the research grant when extending an offer.

This position is based in New York and the selected candidate will be expected to work onside as of their effective start date.

Qualifications

The ideal candidate will have a BS or MS in Biology or a related field, 2 years of research experience, excellent communication and organizational skills, familiarity with plant–microbe interactions, and experience performing plant infection assays and related experimental procedures.
